This one is a bit shorter because it's the season finale. Work Text:
(The Scene opens with Arnold and his class, Mrs Arlington discusses with them. A subtitle says "September, our last year".
ARLINGTON
— Okay, Class, it's our last chapter of our lives. You're in your final class before the SAT. Look, o know you're somewhat worried, but there is no stress. We'll entertain ourselves and you'll succeed.
(In an other class, Gerald's class receives a similar speech. Their teacher is Mr Fribbs, is a latino middle aged teacher).
FRIBBS
— Okay, my dear students. It's our last year together. The SAT is always a stressful test and i know you can sometimes have nightmares. But we'll entertain ourselves and you'll succeed. (The screen divides in two parts, but each class is nervous.)
(The scene shifts in the lodge, Arnold dines with his parents, but Miles and Stella notice their son seem nervous.)
STELLA
— Hey, Arnold.
MILES
— Are you ok, son ?
ARNOLD
— Yeah, yeah, it's just... (he struggles but manages to find the courage to talk.) It's just that i ve had some difficult to adjust myself after PS118. Some of us left, some of us came, and now i found myself separated from some of my classmates during my school hours. (He then alternatively pauses and speaks after each sentence as Miles and Stella listen to him quietly). I began a relationship with Rhonda, and spent a lot of time without Gerald who has a girlfriend now too. And ... It becomes clear that i don't really know what i will do after my SAT.
MILES
— It's normal, son. You wonder constantly about your future but it was the same when we were your age. For example, my dad wanted me to pass the torch and to follow his steps but i was strongly opposed to this.
STELLA
— Same for me. I was pressured by my mom to become a nurse but i wanted to explore other ways.
ARNOLD
— What about your friends ?
MILES
— Ah, friends come and go. But true friend stay.
(The scene shifts with a new subtitle in which it's written "April, last year". Arnold is seen in a forest, discussing with Gerald, Nadine, Rhonda, Stinky, Sid , Lila and Sheena).
ARNOLD
— So, it's our final chapter right ?
GERALD
— Yup.
RHONDA
— Can't believe it. Can't believe it is our final year together.
NADINE
— Me neither. I feel like it went too fast. Sometimes, it stresses me. (Stinky, Sid, Lila and Sheena all silently nod).
ARNOLD
— I know, it's very complicated and i live the same painful experience. However, i think only the future will tell us.
(The screen turns black. The scene opens with James Vanilla's voice as a new subtitle says "June, last step".)
JAMES
— Hey, remember me ? I'm James Vanilla, the narrator. If i'm here today, it's to talk about the future.
(As he continues to speak, we first see the students' name are said as they proudly walk in front of their parents, and receive their diplomas.)
So, Arnold and friends left high school forever in order to pursue studies. Arnold (we also see their future) became a philosophy teacher because he wanted resolve questions, and he taught to some future teachers. He married Rhonda who created vegan clothes. Stinky married Nadine. As for today, both have a farm. Stinky followed his father's steps and he is very happy. Nadine finally renewed with his first passion, bugs and works as an entomologist. Gerald married Sabrina and he became a full time devoted sport teacher. As of this day, Sabrina is his manager. Sid ? Well, Sid actually discovered he liked religion. Now, it's father Sid. Sheena and Peapod Kid are librarian, he in finance and she in nature. Lila became Sid's wife, because Sid is now a pastor and not a priest.
It turned out Miles was both right and wrong. Friends came and go, but Arnold's clan never stayed isolated. But as for now, as they graduated, let's them enjoy the world of tomorrow.
(The screen turns black. The End.)
