Theme: Hanging by a Threat
Prompts: Breaking Point
Whumpee: Miyano Shiho
Song: "Dollhouse", Melanie Martinez
Shiho always knew that betraying the organization was essentially a suicide with an attached "Fuck you, organization!" attached to it. She supposed that was why she had been loyal for so long: fear. She didn't exactly fear her death - in fact, she'd welcome it - but she feared for Akemi. Akemi, her sweet older sister who never deserved a life like this. Akemi, who the higher ups in the organization would kill without a second thought if it meant punishing Shiho.
So that was why Shiho only betrayed the organization after Akemi died first.
Gin and Vodka had taken her to a cell and locked her up. Shiho knew they were planning to kill her, but first, they would make her suffer for as long as possible. Shiho just had to hold on, not let them see her weakness, the pain filling her head at every thought related to Akemi's death.
She didn't care much about whether she lived or died. In fact, maybe dying was better…
For the next few days, Gin kept coming in, threatening her. Shiho wasn't sure whether she was supposed to care or not. She supposed that she wanted it to end, though…
"You shouldn't have betrayed the organization, Sherry."
Gin stood at the door to her cell. Shiho looked up, eyes unable to focus on the man. However, from the little she could see out of her blurry vision, he had an insane grin on his face.
"You should have continued working for us after we killed your sister," Gin continued. "She was never valuable, anyway. But you? You are."
That's right. Shiho was valuable.
"Yet you betrayed us." Gin's voice was full of disgust. "You refused to continue working on the apotoxin. Now you will pay for what you have done."
You think threats matter to me? Shiho thought spitefully.
"Why won't you answer me, Sherry?" Gin growled.
Should I? Shiho thought, despite knowing the answer already.
She wouldn't give Gin what he wanted. He couldn't come in and threaten to kill her every day. Not anymore. She had reached her breaking point.
So when Gin left, Shiho dug the apotoxin out of her lab coat pocket and put one in her mouth.
Miyano Shiho, shrunk in the body of a child, collapsed in front of a house, her vision fading away. Kudo Shinichi, she thought, Won't you know what to do?
When Shiho (was she really Shiho anymore?) woke up again, an old man stood above her, watching her with a concerned face. "Ah, you're awake!" He gasped out, relief appearing on it.
Shiho didn't have time to entertain old men. "Kudo Shinichi… is he here?"
The old man's eyes widened, a spark of horror appearing in them. "What-"
"My name is Sherry," Shiho introduced herself. "I'm the one who made that drug, and…" She sighed. "I'll explain it all later. But I betrayed the organization. I'm on your side."
That was the day she left Miyano Shiho behind, though whether that was permanent or not wasn't set in stone. It was also the day she became Haibara Ai.
