Walking through the grocery store, Bella could feel eyes on her. She knew Forks was a small town, and she knew coming back would raise questions but this was the only place that truly felt like home.

She was checking prices in the meat section when something fast and small collided with her legs. She staggered back and looked down. Sprawled on the floor, in the most adorably mis-matched outfit sat the cutest little girl. Her eyes were wide and a deep brown that reminded Bella of the forest. Her hair was in two lopsided pigtails and there was a smudge of dirt on her nose. Bella's heart immediately melted.

"Well hello there." She said crouching down to help the girl stand. Bella glanced around looking for an adult. "I'm Bella, can you tell me your name?"

The girl's smile was radiant. "You not Bella silly, I'm Bella!" she laughed like Bella had told the funniest joke.

"Well little Bella, where's your mommy? Is she here with you?"

The girl's smile faded and she sadly shook her head. Bella reached down and scooped the young girl up.

"Well, that's okay. Why don't we walk around and see if we can't find your adult." Little Bella leaned her head on Bella's shoulder and nodded.

Bella gave her a tight squeeze and started walking towards the registers.

"Annabelle!" A deep voice shouted. "What the hell do you think you're doing? Put my daughter down!" A strong hand grabbed onto Bella's shoulder and spun her around.

Bella gasped and looked quickly between the man and the young girl. The man stood frozen in shock.

"Sam?"

Annabelle lifted her head from Bella's shoulder and squealed. "Daddy!" She wiggled and threw her arms in Sam's direction and he quickly took her from Bella's arms. He held Annabelle close and kissed the top of her head, all while staring wide eyed at Bella.

Finally his eyes narrowed. "What are you doing here?"

Bella scoffed. "I live here."

"You haven't lived here in a long time Bella. Why did you come back? Did you bring them back with you?" His eyes drifted around the store and Bella's brown furrowed in confusion.

"Did I bring who back?"

"The Cullens." he spat. "Are they moving back as well?"

Bella was sure her jaw had popped with how fast it dropped open.

"The.. the Cullens? You think I've been with the Cullens?" she asked.

"You all left, right around the same time. Everyone just assumed that you had gone after them, and Charlie wouldn't talk about it."

"Shit." Bella whispered and a small giggle made her look up. Little Annabelle had her hand extended, waiting. Sam smirked.

"Miss Bell said a naughty word." Annabelle snickered.

Bella's eyes drifted from her hand to Sam's face in question.

"Her uncles are required to give her a dollar every time they say a naughty word. She's nearly got her college tuition saved already." Sam laughed.

Bella shook her head and tried to shake off the weirdness that was this conversation. She reached into her wallet and pulled out a five dollar bill. "Well kid, since I don't have any ones how about I give you the five and pay ahead for any naughty words I might say later."

Annabelle, not really understanding, nodded her head and took the money.

Bella turned to face Sam again but swayed on her feet as black spots danced in her vision.

Sam watched as Bella's face lost all color and her eyes seemed to lose focus. He quickly set Annabelle at his feet and used both hands to grasp onto Bella's shoulders just before her eyes rolled back and her knees gave out.
