Traveling through the woods of Wonderland, so tiny, so very tiny, Varian was crawling around through strands of grass and stepping over pebbles and climbing over rocks...
He noticed a bunch of colored smoke lingering through the air, and he wondered where it came from, because he definitely hadn't done any alchemy lately, since he's been stuck in Wonderland for the past few hours. Varian decided to follow it to try and figure out what it was.
Once arriving to where the smoke was appearing, he saw a tall mushroom that had something or someone on it. Varian climbed up on the smaller mushrooms nearby it and came face-to-face with a young woman with a long, blue dress that was like a caterpillar, black-hair and smoking a hookah, puffing out colored plumes of smoke.
"Hello-" Varian spoke, but he coughed upon accidentally inhaling the smoke.
The woman looked at him, she took an inhale from her hookah and blew out smoke that was shaped like the words she was saying while she did so; "Who are you?" She asked.
Varian waved his hand in front of his face, avoiding the smoke. "I'm not sure who I am anymore, miss. I've changed so many times and wandered around so many places, surely I've changed since I originally knew who I was." Varian explained. The woman murmured, "What do you mean?"
"Do explain yourself." She pulled the hookah closer and then began to smoke again.
"I'm not sure if I can, for you see, I am not myself much anymore." said Varian;
The woman looked at him quietly then said with a sleepy voice, "I don't see."
Varian shook his head, "I don't think I can make it anymore clear, I can't understand it either as I've been so many different sizes and so many different places, it's all so confusing."
"It isn't." The woman snarked.
"Well maybe you haven't found it yet, but when you turn into a chrysalis, you will know, and you'll turn into a butterfly, and you'll think of it quite odd, wouldn't you?" Varian mumbled.
"Not at all." The woman blew out smoke, the words forming in the smoke.
Varian coughed again and forced out, "Maybe you feel different than I, all I know is that it would be quite odd for me." said Varian.
"You!" The woman stopped him, saying contemptuously.
"Who are you?" She asked the same question as earlier.
Varian stared very irritated, all the people in this Wonderland were mad!
He hissed; "Well, I think you should tell me who you are first, milady."
The woman paused, then spoke again; "Why?"
Varian was getting ready to stomp off, but the woman stopped him.
"Don't run off, I have something important to say."
He turned back around and got back onto the mushroom with the woman.
"Keep your temper." She muttered, smoke lingering out of her mouth.
"Is that all?" Varian raised a brow. "No." Said the woman.
The woman smoked for a while before responding with two of her many arms crossed.
"So you think you have changed here?" The woman asked.
"I'm afraid I have. I can't remember things and my size changes all the time!" Varian explained.
"Can't remember what?" She asked him. "Well, I've tried to say Ready as I'll every bee," Varian started, "But it came out all different than what it was originally!" said Varian.
Silence went by for the longest time, the woman smoking from her hookah, letting out plumes of colored smoke into the air. "What size would you like to be then?" She raised a brow slowly.
"I'm not sure, I don't mind any size, I just don't like changing so often. Only one doesn't like changing so often, you know." He said to her. The woman yawned, "I don't know." said the woman, smoke puffing out of her mouth in letters and words.
"Are you content now?" The woman asked.
"I'd like to be a little taller, milady. If you don't mind. Three inches is such an annoying height to be." Varian said. "It is a good height!" The woman stood up angrily; she was exactly three inches tall, and Varian pleaded in a piteous tone; "But I'm not used to it!"
How he wished that the creatures here wouldn't get so offended by his words...
"You'll get used to it." The woman sat back down, grabbing her hookah again.
The woman stayed silent, puffing smoke, for quite a few minutes, before she took the hookah out of her mouth, setting it aside and crawling down the mushroom. "One side will make you taller, and the other one will make you smaller." She spoke.
"One side? Of what?" Varian climbed down and followed her, questioning her.
"Of the mushroom." She explained.
Varian looked at the mushroom with a very bewildered, confused look on his face. How would a round mushroom have one side or the other? "Which is which?" He wondered to himself.
He grabbed a piece of one side and ate it, and soon he was shrinking very quickly, which gave him quite the surprise! He then took a piece of the other side and ate that, which made him very, very tall, about four feet high! He then ate the one side again and managed to bring himself to nine inches tall and wandered off, saying goodbye to the caterpillar woman, and headed to a nearby house, a few pieces of the mushroom in his apron pocket just in-case he needed it for something.
