The young lovers drove beneath the twilight sky. Their fingers interlocked as they road through the mostly empty streets. It looked like a scene ripped from every teen movie. They couldn't care less how cliche it looked. They were happy, and that's all that mattered at the moment.
Big Red couldn't help but look at his girlfriend with loving eyes at every stop. She looked so beautiful that evening in the pink dress she wore for the show. Big Red had felt silly standing beside her in a jester costume.
After the next red light, there was a loud crash. Big Red felt his body ache, and his car was pretty unsavable. The windscreen was gone, and glass littered the vehicle. In the distance, Big Red saw a figure. He looked to his passenger seat, noticing it was now empty.
Before Big Red could move, a giant monster with claws appeared. A creature about the size of a skyscraper. It scooped the figure into his paws. In one gulp, it eats the figure.
Beep. Beep.
Big Red woke up on the softest bed he's ever laid on. "He's waking up," a familiar voice called. Ricky. The comment was hushed enough so it wouldn't agitate the injured boy. Big Red was thankful for that since his headache was pounding.
"I'm going to get his parents and doctor," Gina said. She got up and left the hospital room. Big Red felt something that stopped him from moving his right arm. Once his vision cleared, Big Red realized his arm was in a sling. Bandages covered him from where the glass penetrated his skin.
"Ricky," Big Red called out to his friend.
"Right here," Ricky said.
"How long was I out?" Big Red asked.
"You didn't sleep as long as we thought you would," Ricky said. "You slept for about nine hours after the surgery. The doctor will explain your injuries better than I can."
Big Red remembered something important. "Ashlyn," Big Red said. "She was in the car with me. I wanted to check on her, but they put me in the ambulance before I could. Is she okay?"
Tears began to fill Ricky's eyes. He tried to speak, but he couldn't. That gave Big Red the answer, and now he was crying too.
Lily sat in her room, reviewing her script. This year, North High did 'The Prom.' Lily played the role of Deedee Allen. She was reading over her material for the Menkies. North High was up for quite a few awards like every other year.
The doorbell rang. Since Lily's parents were out, Lily went to answer the door. Katie Mackamara stood opposite her. "Hey, sis," Lily asked. "Did you leave something? I thought your plane left earlier this morning."
Katie's eyes were puffy from crying. "I did something super bad," she cried.
