Stupid.

This whole idea of Olaf's was pure stupidity. But then why had I agreed to go along with it?

Cause I'm a stupid idiot who's desperately in love wi-

I felt my throat go dry as I rounded the corner, and she came into view.

Valerie Gray.

Badass ghost hunter. One of the hard-working protectors of Amity Park.

Who is also one of my best friends.

One of my best friends that I happen to have a massive crush on.

Valerie was at her locker, rummaging through it. I glanced around and saw that no one else was nearby.

Perfect. So, if I make a fool outta myself, at least no one will be able to witness it.

My heart was beating super fast, and my legs suddenly felt like jelly. God darn it, Anna! You've rehearsed this about a million times already! Get it together!

I took a deep breath, my hands tightly gripping my textbook and binder against my chest before mentally and physically ordering my legs to move toward Valerie. She turned her head and smiled at me as I approached.

"Hey, Anna!" she greeted. "Um, what's up with your legs? Are you okay?"

"Nothing!" I stammered. "I, uh, must've pulled a muscle on the way here?"

I mentally groaned. Real smooth, Anna. Really.

Valerie shot me a confused look. "Was that a question or answer?"

"Both." I shrugged, laughing nervously. "I rode my bike here. I didn't feel like riding with Elsa and Maren today."

An even more confused look was thrown at me. "Anna, it's storming outside right now!" exclaimed Valerie.

Immediately after she said that the loud rumble of thunder and the rain picking up could be heard outside.

I nervously rubbed the back of my neck. "I enjoy mother nature?"

An extremely awkward silence followed for about ten seconds before Valerie spoke up.

"So, Olaf said you wanted to speak to me before class started."

I felt the color drain from my face. Dammit, Olaf! I told him not to say anything!

"Yeah, I, uh- I was wondering if you-"

Oh, for heaven's sake, Anna! Get on with it!

My eyes glanced behind her and spotted a Fenton Thermos resting in her locker. And for some dumb reason-

"Ghost hunting!" I squeaked, perhaps a little too loud. "I want you to train me how to hunt ghosts!"

Another awkward moment of silence passed, followed by Valerie gently placing the back of her hand against my forehead, eliciting a blush from me. Her green eyes stared into mine, full of concern.

God her eyes are so beautiful.

"Anna, are you feeling okay?" she asked.

I nodded. "Yeah. Why?"

Valerie removed her hand and placed it on her hip, staring at me with the most perplexed look. "Ghost hunting?" She turned around and grabbed the thermos out of her locker and shook it in front of me. "Ghost hunting?"

"Yes." I answered, a little bit quieter now. Dammit. Why did I say ghost hunting?!

"Have you ever been ghost hunting, Anna?" Valerie asked, placing the thermos back in her locker.

I felt my cheeks turning bright red in embarrassment. My eyes stared at the floor, unable to meet her gaze. "No," I said softly.

"And you want me to train you?"

I forced myself to face her and nodded. Valerie didn't say anything; her gorgeous eyes staring at me as if she could see through this stupid ass charade-

"Sure."

I blinked in surprise.

Wait, what?

Did she actually say yes?!

"You'll train me?!"

Valerie smiled at me. "Of course. Everyone in town should know the basics of ghost hunting and protection. Especially my friends."

My heart skipped a beat over her beautiful smile. "Oh, thank you, Valerie!"

Valerie softly giggled. "No problem, Anna. Although, I'm a little confused as to why you came to me first instead of Sam or Tucker."

Crap.

I nervously chuckled. "Well, Sam and Tucker said that they were gonna be busy this afternoon."

Valerie was about to open her mouth and say something- probably to call me out on my obvious lie- but the morning bell rang.

"Wow! Would you look at that? Time for class!" I exclaimed. "I have to find Olaf before I head to my class! See you later, Val!"

I was about to make my hasty escape down the hallway, but due to me being a nervous gay mess, I ended up dropping my binder and textbook onto the floor.

Darn it, Anna!

I crouched down to pick up my things, only for Valerie to beat me to the punch. She swiftly collected the binder and textbook and handed them to me, once again smiling at me. I was suddenly hyper-aware of our close proximity again.

"T-Thanks." I stammered.

"No problem," she replied. "I'll see you later in Mrs. Clark's. We can go over the training details then."

As she walked away, I couldn't help but stare like a lovesick puppy. Hell, I was practically borderline drooling and had hearts in my eyes. This day was starting off pretty good so far!

"Dude, that was painful."

I snapped out of my trance and saw Olaf standing across from me shaking his head in amusement.

"How long were you standing there?!" I demanded.

Olaf snickered. "Long enough to see you acting like a fool!"

I crossed my arms over my chest, once again dropping my stuff. "I was not!"

The blonde burst out laughing. "Dude, you were supposed to ask for help studying, not ghost hunting!"

I shot him a glare. "And you weren't supposed to tell Valerie that I wanted to talk to her, Olaf!"

"Hey, I'm just trying to help my best friend out," he said with a mischievous grin. "And my plan worked, despite you switching up some parts of it."

I sighed. "What if I mess it up? Or worse- ruin our friendship?"

Olaf placed a hand on my shoulder and smiled at me. "Anna, you have nothing to worry about. Just relax and be yourself."

I nodded, slowly feeling myself relax.

"Good," said Olaf. "And if you two happen to kiss, make sure you make the first move. I got two hundred on you, Anna."

Wait, did he just-

"What the hell you mean you have two hund- wait, are you betting on who's gonna-"

Olaf chuckled nervously. "Aw damn! I just realized that I was supposed to meet Danny in the library to copy his homework for Mr. Lancer's class! Gotta go!"

He quickly sprinted down the hallway and my legs quickly began to give chase.

"YOU'RE SO DEAD, OLAF!" I shouted.
