This is my second Twilight x Rick and Morty story in which Morticia comes to Forks… I just really like the idea of her messing up the story okay? She's just so blunt and rude and just a complete contrast to what I usually think of when Twilight comes to mind.

For this one I will, however, make sure that Morticia and Edward end up together (and that they don't end up killing each other). I can't promise anything good for Bella though.

Disclaimer: I don't own the Twilight sage or Rick and Morty- they belong to Stephanie Meyer and Warner Bros respectfully.

Chapter 1 Is this the Matrix?

Bella's pov:

The shopping trip had always been a non negotiable. Bella knew this, yet it never stopped her from bemoaning the day when it approached. Once every three months- since Arizona experienced little in means of seasons- her mom would drag her off to one of Phoenix's massive indoor malls and spend the day pushing Bella into whatever piece of clothing caught her fancy. At this point, it was simply tradition for them to have a little 'girl's day out' as her mom would put it- Bella just thought the entire thing to be ridiculous. She already spent most of her free time with or around her mom anyway and shopping, of all things, didn't even make it in the top twenty to things she preferred to do as an activity.

So try as she might, there was very little her mom could do to get Bella to forgo the little escapades she imposed throughout the day. Currently she was seated on one of the stray benches that overlooked the plaza from three floors up, slowly sipping on a coke she didn't at all feel like drinking. She savored it though. Her mom had tried to steer them towards a lingerie store and there was no way she was entering a place like that with her mother. Bella already felt unnecessarily uncomfortable whenever she was in a regular clothing store. She didn't want to know how she'd feel being actually naked in a changing stall or having to talk about intimate information with a store clerks or- god forbid- having her mom try on any of the things they sell. She didn't need, nor want, to know the details of her mom's relationship beyond 'he respects and loves me!'. So as far as Bella cared, all the other aspects that were normally included in adult relationships just simply didn't exist in her mom's love life. Period. No further statements needed there, thanks.

So yes, despite already being very much full from the lunch they had eaten earlier, Bella felt a moment of peace knowing that she'd managed to escape that particular brand of agony. If only she could keep recycling the same excuses for the rest of the day… but she knew that that was just wistful thinking on her part. Her mother wouldn't stand for it- she didn't doubt that her mom would just take 'How sad, Bella's feeling under the weather today' as an excuse to just plan another shopping trip for the following weekend. She might still be able to pull off another toilet break but she really shouldn't push much further beyond that. Sighing to herself, Bella let herself sink a little lower on the bench. She would take what she could get though and for now there was nothing that would make her move from her seat until her mom physically came to drag her off of it.

"You look like me."

Startled, Bella turned to face the person sitting next to her- then proceeded to blink back her surprise when the realization hit that this absolute stranger had actually spoken to her. "…What?"

The girl crooked her head ever so slightly to the side, seemingly considering something that Bella couldn't even begin to unravel and took the so what awkward moment to ease her frazzled nerves. Who just start conversations with strangers like that? Bella wasn't sure what to make from the odd girl sitting next to her. The girl in question was dressed like she was about to head for some kind of business meeting. Suited up in a well tailored black fabric, a ribbon daintily tied around her collar and a sleek leather briefcase at her side. But Bella seriously doubted that that was the case seeing as this girl was close to same age or possibly even younger than her. Bella felt herself frown in frustrating puzzlement and curiosity. It was quite obvious that she wasn't just here to shop. But then why was she here at the mall? And why did she strike up a conversation with her of all people?

"I said that we look familiar. Peculiarly so, actually. Say, you wouldn't happen to have any relatives with the last name of Smith or Sanchez?"

"No?" Bella answered as she watched the girl's hand move to hover near her briefcase. Why did she sound so weirdly professional? "No Smith's and I seriously doubt that I have any Hispanic ancestors with how pale I am... Why- why are you asking me all this?"

"Just a safety precaution. Don't worry about it. Anyway-" The girl offered Bella a friendly smile and reached out her hand, "I'm Morticia Smith and I'd like to offer you an once-in-a-lifetime proposal."

Bella was starting to think the girl was just another salesperson. Either that or just messing with her. Still, she ignored her own skepticism for a moment, placed her can of coke besides her and shook the girl's- notably rougher- hand. A contrast to her elegant dress. This girl just kept getting curiouser and curiouser. "Bella Swan. You sound like a hack by the way, no offence."

"None taken." Morticia replied easily, clearly un-offended. "To get to the point, I would like to offer you a deal which I think can benefit the both of us greatly."

Morticia then slipped her briefcase onto her lap and clicked the locks off before opening it. The interior of the briefcase wasn't at all like Bella had expected- instead of velvet linings and office supplies, there was metal plating and intricate foreign objects. Bella found herself absorbed into the queerness of it all. "What is-"

"Tell me Bella," Morticia cut in, taunting ever so lightly. "did you notice that them stop?"

"W-what? Who-?" She honestly had no need to ask for it, as it became clear the moment Bella managed to tear her eyes away from Morticia's captivating person what the other girl was talking about.

Bella gasped out her shock, her eyes bulging as she nearly tripped over herself to get onto her feet. They had stopped. Everyone- the other shoppers- it was as if they had suddenly been turned into statues. Nobody moved. Nobody even blinked. It was entirely too jarring to believe that it was actually real.

Bella moved around the other shoppers in pure fascination. Taking in the sights and sometimes even having to resort to touching their arms or shoulders in a means to do a double check. A couple of Asian descent had frozen mid-walk still stared at each other with keen interest. An elderly man was sitting hunch into himself- sleeping, Bella had to reassure herself. Not dead. Nobody seemed to be breathing. But most peculiarly she found the sight of the crying boy hanging on his mother's hand- she could see her reflection in the tear which had stopped in the middle of its travel down the boy's flushed cheek. It quickly became clear to Bella that whatever had happened, hadn't just stopped the people in their track- no it had stopped time itself. Geez, had she really been that lost in her own thoughts? Had she really been that absorbed in the mystery that Morticia presented that she hadn't even noticed how alarmingly silent the world around her had gotten?

She wandered back to the bench feeling like she was in a daze; Morticia was still sitting right where Bella had left her. She glanced up once Bella got in her field of vision and gave Bella a tired grin. "It's cool right?"

"Yeah, its…What, exactly, did you do to..?" Bella made a weak motion with her arm around her.

"To stop time?" She offered and Bella nod, feeling a little in over her head as she retook her place next to Morticia. "My grandpa is a scientist - a genius in both the best and worst sense of the word. Doing something messed up like this is just… his thing. I suppose I picked up some of his brilliance along the way…Or maybe I'm just growing into it. I don't know."

"Why are you showing me this?" Bella demanded softy, "Why me?"

"I needed you to know that I'm legit before making my offer. And as for why I picked you… Didn't I already tell you that your appearance resembles my own? Like, we have the same hair colour and I'm pretty sure we also share some familiar bone structure- which is honestly ridiculous, but I suppose that it will work in our favor if you end up going through with the deal."

"Okay," Bella noted annoyed, that didn't really tell her much of anything. "So what's the deal then? What can I possible offer you that you can't just…" waving her hand around uselessly again to indicate to the people frozen around her. "science yourself?"

"I need shelter. Basically a family I can insert myself into so that I can have a normal quiet place to work through my messes. My therapist suggested that I'd let myself get adopted, but I don't trust the government enough to get me into a good family. So I've been checking out places which usually attract families and got to scoping out my options-"

"And then you saw me."

"Yup."

Furrowing her brow again, Bella took a moment to break from the conversation and look around her. She knew she was in over her head. That this wasn't the kind of situation she knew how to deal with. But what Morticia was asking of her… It didn't sound too bad…Just vague still. "Why can't you just 'figure out your messes' with your own family? Did something happen to them?"

Morticia let out a sigh and Bella noted once more how tired the girl next to her appeared, "My real family is dead but you'll be surprised at how much trauma they're still bringing me. I have some repressed memories which I need to work through and some more stuff from my grandpa to dismantle. Overall, I think it better if I kept my distance from anything that's genetically related to me for the time being. Seeing as so far it seems like most of my issues come from there anyway."

"That sounds so what understandable… I guess." Bella admitted quietly. She herself had no real experience with something as awful as childhood trauma, but what Morticia was saying seemed reasonable enough. She'd been seeing a shrink apparently and needs time away from whatever was causing her grief to deal with the after effects of her traumas. Bella could understand that thought process. "So you want to be adopted by my family? Is that what you're getting at?"

"Basically, yeah." Morticia shrugged her shoulders as the girl let herself sink back against the backrest of the bench. "I need to surround myself with the normal state of affairs. Have chores. Go to school… A routine if you will."

"I think I'll need to talk with my mom about this first-"

"No need for that- unless you really feel the need for it, of course. But I'd much rather prefer it if you didn't. I can't really afford people knowing about me-" Morticia mimicked Bella's vague hand gesture around them with a wary grin, "It will get messy really quick, believe me."

"So I can't tell mom?" Bella demanded confused, "Then how do you suppose you'll get adopted then? I mean, my mom is easily one of the nicest people I know, but I doubt even she would feel all that comfortable taking in a complete stranger."

Morticia sighed again and Bella was once more starting to feel like the other girl was making fun of her. "To her- and anyone else, really- it would be like I've always been a part of the family. I suppose she'll believe me to be your younger sibling... Or possibly a random Hispanic girl she adopted somewhere along the way."

"And how would you go about doing that?" Bella asked starting to become a little frustrated with how evasive the other girl was being. "Are you going to jump back in time and tag on your own birth certificate?"

Morticia snorted under her breathe, "Like that would work- no, I'd just rearrange her memories a bit. Nothing harmful, I promise. I've been working a lot with memories lately, so I know what I'm doing."

"Those repressed memories you mentioned?"

"My grandpa grew into the habit of erasing parts which he was embarrassed about others knowing." Morticia shook her head, "Or memories which are just too painful to remember… I've been working through them to… regain my identity- my true self- I suppose you can call it. Humans learn through experience after all, so I'd hate to think that I'm missing parts of myself simply because my grandpa didn't agree with them."

"And you want to do that to my mom?" Bella accused.

"I won't be removing anything." Morticia was quick to reassure, "Just adding in small suggestions like, 'oh, remember when Bella did so and so- and there is Morticia in the background' to elevate any suspicion. I'd probably only have to alter, like three core memories, the rest will simply fall inline. People generally don't ponder that much about their past anyway."

"Still doesn't sound great."

"I suppose it doesn't..." Morticia hummed, "I could make it reversible? Would that make you feel better? Then if our contract falls through, it would be like I was never even here in the first place."

"That's…" Bella suddenly realized that she was actually starting to consider the other girl's crazy offer. Bella huffed and blinked before turning away for a moment. This entire thing was messed up. Morticia was still practically a stranger but what if Bella took up her offer? Would she get to see and experience stuff like time freezing over all the time? Bella hated to admit it but the girl fascinated her to no end. She spoke of science fiction as if they were actually truths- she'd shown that her offer was very much real and an option that Bella could take. Who else would ever get an opportunity like this? Would Bella even remember this conversation if she said no? After what she'd heard form Morticia, she didn't doubt it and Bella hated the idea of being ignorant of all this. But Morticia's offer… Could she really be trusted? "You said that I would also get something out of this deal… But so far you've only said what you would gain."

Morticia once more shrugged her shoulders, though this time it was dome with a careless nonchalance. "I have a working understanding of infinite knowledge… What would you like to have? I can get you pretty much anything- though I can't exactly bring people back from the dead- just isn't worth it. And I'm really not into the whole 'make someone fall in love' thing, since it feels a bit too rapey for me… But aside from those, I can arrange pretty much anything for you?"

"Did you just give me the genie's rules for wish making?" Bella asked in amusement.

Morticia rolled her eyes. "Only two. I could definitely kill someone for you if you need me to. Though I'd much rather prefer not to, considering that I am trying to get myself straightened out. But if it's something that you need for the deal to go through then-"

"No! No, no. That isn't necessary." Bella quickly cut in, instantly feeling much more alert sitting next to this strange- and possibly dangerous- girl. "That- that isn't something you will-?"

Morticia threw up her hands in a mock show of surrender, "Hey, I'm a work in progress. I'll admit to that much. But I'm not some kind of bloodthirsty psychopath, yeah? I don't like killing. But if it means surviving then…"

"Clear. That's- That's understandable, really." Bella nod briskly. She nervously ran a hand through her hair and once more glanced around- her eyes trailing to the Lingerie store just a little ways away without her consent to do so. "Can I- Could I have time to think about all of this? You're kind of asking a lot from me and- and your offer is also…"

"It's not a decision you can make lightly, I understand." Morticia nod agreeable and internally Bella felt like heaving a breath in relieve, she needed a break from this girl to properly sort her thoughts out… In the corner of her eye, Bella noticed Morticia opening her briefcase again and she turned with interest. The girl took out a small rectangular device- it almost looked like a tiny flip phone but there was only one large button in the inside of the casing. Morticia held it out for Bella to take. "Here- I will leave you for now. You push the button once you've come to your decision, doesn't matter if it's a yes or no. I'll be visiting you then and we'll resume this conversation."

Then Morticia stood up and left without as much as a 'goodbye'. Bella watched as she walked away- a surreal feeling of desperation bubbled up in her chest and for a second Bella considered calling her back. But then the girl disappeared behind a group of shoppers and the surroundings came back to life and Bella all but jumped out of her seat. She looked around her in bewilderment, tightly clenching the device in her hand- tight enough to assure her that what just transpired had actually happened and wasn't just a figment of her imagination.

I actually don't remember how I got to the idea of having these two meet like this. I like it though. I feel like I managed to characterize them both very well even though I only worked from Bella's perspective.
