A quick note. . .

I intended this piece both as an epilogue to my re-write of Episode VII as well as a prologue to Episode VIII. It serves those function, but the joy in writing it centered around being able to flesh out Luke Skywalker as a complicated character whose life experiences contrast and conflict with the expectations that destiny has placed upon him. That conflict feeds into a much larger narrative arc where Luke plays a critical role based on expectations and directives that will be tested. Luke, in many ways, is defined by his attachments but occupies a role that emphasizes abandoning attachments. Those two forces are not always in harmony, and sooner or later, there comes a moment when one must choose between two oppositional forces.

Up next, I write a similar interlude/prologue for Leia, focusing on her own internal challenge. This three-part series will focus on Leia's childhood, her relationship with Ahsoka Tano, and choices she too must make.

Lastly, these two interludes are part of a much larger series of short stories detailing events in the year between Episode VII and Episode VIII. I'm still writing these stories, and once they are complete, I will begin releasing them – likely after I've posted all of Episode VIII and Episode IX, both of which are already complete.

This series rolls directly into my re-write for Episode VIII, which I will begin releasing three chapters at a time starting on Monday, October 24th.

Thanks for reading.
