King MacFrights, first name Archibald, was born on September 28, 764 A.D. His exact birthplace isn't known, but historians speculate that he was born near present-day Edinburgh, Scotland. According to surviving texts, the future King was an athletic child, spending his time sparring with other boys and watching duels and jousting matches. When grew older, MacFrights worked to unite various tribes under his banner, and in 790, he took the throne, ushering in a golden age.
The new King reigned firmly but justly for 31 years, lowering taxes on the peasantry, allowing women to hold political power and investing in education, sanitation and the arts. MacFrights was also known to organize jousting tournaments, which he personally participated in. His bright red hair and beard earned him the moniker, "The Fiery One", and he surely had the temperament to match.
Alas, all good things must come to an end, and on March 18, 821, King MacFrights was assassinated. His death caused the alliances he'd forged to break apart, and his kingdom was decimated by a bloody civil war.
As a ghost, King MacFrights swore revenge against his assassins, searching for them well into the modern era. Tourists could catch a glimpse of him in the Scottish Highlands, and if he was in a good mood, then he'd take pictures with them before swearing them to secrecy. One such tourist was Hellen Gravely, and she decided to give him a place to stay—a hotel floor designed to resemble his old castle! MacFrights was touched and swore fealty to his new benefactor.
In the very early hours of October 31, 2019, Hellen expected MacFrights to live up to his oath by guarding one of the elevator buttons. When he encountered Luigi, the ghostly King challenged him to navigate his castle-themed hotel floor filled with deadly traps and meet up with him in a large arena. With Gooigi's help, Luigi braved all of the perils and confronted MacFrights, who then challenged him to a duel.
During the duel's first half, MacFrights jumped into a mounted suit of armor and charged at Luigi with a spear. While the weapon was blunt-tipped, it could still deal painful attacks. With a combination of perfect timing, a Strobulb flash and his Suction Shot, Luigi outsmarted MacFrights, reducing his armor to scrap metal after three cycles. After that, MacFrights fought with his sword, which was also blunted, yet capable of dishing out serious hurt. But Luigi managed to find an opening and land some critical blows, winning the tough duel and capturing the ghostly King.
When Hellen and King Boo were defeated, MacFrights joined the remaining ghosts in making peace with Luigi and his friends, and he pitched in to build the new hotel. Upon its completion, he hosted a nightly, medieval-themed dinner show which culminated in a friendly sparring match against a lucky guest. He has long-since abandoned his original quest for vengeance and is fully settled into his new job.
