Kakarot, The Saiyan of Earth

The timeline is an interesting thing, branching out like a tree. Slight changes can have major affects upon what could be. Will the changes be for the better or worse, only time can tell.

Children from the Sky

A light autumn breeze blew through the serene valley around Mount Paozu as an elderly man walked out of his house to greet the new day. Fog was starting to clear from the nearby river as he strokes his white mustache, looking around around to admire the peace of the remote area. He quickly packs a wicker basket with herbs, spices and animal pelts he has collected over the month. Finishing his preparations, he slings the basket on his back before setting out towards a village several days away for his routine supply run.

Humming a cheerful tune, he sets off a moderate pace for him. If anyone where to see him, they would be astonished at the site of a man of at least seventy years moving through the woods as fast as a marathon runner in their prime. Taking in the beauty of nature around him, he stops frequently on his journey, enjoying the simple life out in the woods away from the distraction of the cities and towns. Passing streams, cliffs, lakes, and a waterfall, he stops in the late evening to set up camp for the night.

As he gathers fire wood, a glow from the dusk sky catches his eyes. He looks up in time to see a streak of light falling from the sky, almost seeming to slow down as it speeds towards the ground. A loud boom followed by a gust of wind as the streak impacts the ground less than a mile from him. Rushing towards the impact site, he arrives near the area to find a crater with a glowing metallic sphere in the center. Looking down from the rim of the crater at the strange object, he watches as a blast of steam is emitted from the sphere as part of it opens up to reveal two small moving figures.

As he looks closer he can make out what appears to be a young boy appearing no older than 8 with spiky, wild hair wearing some type of black and yellowish armor with dark under suite ending above his knees and no arm covering. Whether it is due to not having sleeves or nothing on the upper body is unknown. Twitching behind him is what appears to be a tail of some type. In his arms is a smaller child, a baby no older than one wrapped in cloth. The most prominent feature for him however is the distress on both of their faces. The baby is crying as the young boy tries to comfort it while fighting obvious tears and fear in his own eyes and face. He can barely make out words being spoken by the boy towards the baby, however it sounds unlike any language he has heard in his life and travel around the world.

Moving from his spot on the crater, the elderly man moves down towards the two young children. One word is repeated multiple times as he nears the two, Prika. Guessing it to be the name of the baby, he assumes his natural kind, gentle smile as he nears the two and greats them with a gentle "Hello".

The boy jumps before spinning around, moving the baby behind him in a protecting manner. Fear and surprise flashes across the boy's face before determination shines in his eyes and a scowl forms on his face. He takes a fairly strong if unfamiliar fighting stance before shouting out something in the unknown language.

Chuckling slightly as he raises his hands in a hopefully disarming manner, the elderly man slowly speaks.

"I am unable to understand you."

"Goodbye, Kakarot," he can hear as the pod seals shut. A six year old child watches with sadden eyes as his mother waives at him through the window on the pods door. Next to her another woman watches, barely contained fury burning in her eyes as the pod begins to levitate off the ground. Feeling the other occupant inside the pod move, he lifts up a baby to see out the window to see her mother, possibly for the last time.

"Kakarot, you better look after Prika as if she was your own sister!" the other woman's muffled yell can be heard.

"Do not forget the lessons I have taught you, son. We will meet again. Until then, continue training, and do not forget your heritage. Come Gine, we must move fast to…." a man says from behind the two women, his voice trailing off as the pod shakes before quickly shooting into the sky, then into space. The planet starts to draw away slowly at first. Looking out in wonder, he watches as the pod accelerates away from his home. After two hours all he can see out the window is a bright light showing his home. Suddenly, the speck of light grows bigger, almost like an explosion. He screams in terror as the realization hits him. His planet is…

"...ycle complete. Prepare for landing." Eyes fluttering open, the young boy takes a few seconds to realize where he is. He looks out of the window at the approaching blue and green planet with hollow eyes. The feeling of something moving on his lap followed by a soft whimper snaps him from his thoughts.

"It wasn't a dream," he says as he looks down a the year old cub in his lap. The cub gazes up at him with a questioning gaze, still whimpering as she takes in all the unusual sites and sounds in the pod. Unsure at first on how to calm her, he wraps his tail around hers, while gently rubbing her back, a motion his mother did when he was upset.

"Its ok Prika. Your…. big brother will take care of you," he hesitates, remember Fasha's words before they left their home.

The pod starts to shake as it enters the atmosphere of the planet. The glow from the heat of entry makes it hard to see where they are landing at, however he can just make out the shape of mountains below them. With a sudden jolt, the pod impacts the surface, creating its signature crater.

Within seconds, safety features not usually found in pods scan the environment of the planet for anything threatening to its passengers before a screen glows blue, signaling the all clear. A synthesize voice seconding the message before with a hiss of steam, the door lowered.

He looked out of the pod, and finally all the events of the past few hours hit. A normal day training with his mother and others near their camp was disrupted as his father, Bardock rushed to them, shouting for the others to join as quickly as possible. Everyone in the camp quickly assembled at his father's request. Most of the talk went over his head, however he did pick up most of his father's team being killed by Frieza's elite fighters and boasting of a similar fate to all the "stinking monkeys" in the universe. He shuddered at the threat, knowing what Frieza did to anyone he did not view as useful anymore. His father quickly left with Fasha, on of his father's teammembers to see King Vegeta due to the threat. His mother took him to a secluded area where an attack pod was hidden. Fasha and his father met up with them, Fasha having her young daughter with her to go with him in an attempt to flee to safety. He remembers his parents telling him the pod had supplies to last a few weeks as well as learning material. They promised him they would see him in the future, but leaving without them was the best way to protect him and possibly ensure the survival of the Saiyans. Before the induced sleep took them for the long journey to another planet, he remembers watching as an apparent super nova replaced his home planet, Vegetasei.

Distressed and fearful of the burden he felt, he left the pod with Prika in his arms. She seemed to sense the same things as she started to cry. He quickly talked to her, trying to console her while he himself needed the same thing. So distracted, he missed someone approaching before a soft voice spoke behind them.

With a start he jumped around to look at what appeared to be an old Saiyan well past his prime. He quickly placed Prika behind him, assuming his parents fighting style, ready to defend himself and the baby.

"Who are you, and what do you want!" he yells out, hoping he would be strong enough to defend them if a fight broke out. Right now the instinct to protect the defenseless cub behind him and survival overruled the want for battle.

The sound of the man laughing lightly and his relaxed posture helped ease some tension, but he kept his stance ready in case it was all a trick, especially when he heard the man speak in common language instead of saiya-go.

"I am unable to understand you."

Worry and shock flashed across his face. Was this planet actually under the Cold Empire? Was he and Prika going to meet the same fate so soon after their parents – he dared not finish that thought. His parents said they would see him in the future, he had to hope it was true. Surely others survived the planet destruction. Sniffing the air, he realized the man was definitely not a Saiyan, he did not smell right.

"What are you? Is this planet under Frieza's control?" he quickly asked in common.

With a confused look, the older man takes a few seconds to think on how to respond. "I'm unsure who this Frieza is. King Furry is the current monarch and unless something has happened in the last month he should still be. My name is Gohan."

"But what are you. You look like a Saiyan, but definitely are not one. And what is the name of this planet." He continued, pressing for more information. He knew the planet was inhabited based on what his mother told him before he left, but not the name or what the inhabitants looked like. This Gohan looked the same as an old Saiyan should minus the tail. He had never seen one so old so he was just guessing however.

"I am a human and your on Earth." Gohan states still with a questioning look.

Looking Gohan over, he could not decide how to take the information. The way he responded was as if he did not know they where from different planets, but after recalling all the information he was told, the planet they where going was just starting to travel to space. Maybe the idea of other beings in the universe was not thought of by most of the inhabitant. Gohan did not seem to be a threat and he had time to attack the two if he wanted, and fatigue from everything was starting to hit the young boy. Shaking his head in an attempt stay alert, he began to talk further when he collapsed from exhaustion. Even with induced sleep for months to make it to the planet, the young child was spent. Mumbling something before darkness took him, his last vision was of the old man standing over him, concern and worry in his eyes.

"NO, MOTHER!"

The yell of a young boy pierces the night air as he shoots to a sitting position, suddenly wide awake. Glancing around with haunted distraught eyes with quick breaths, panic creeps over him due to the unknown surrounding and the nightmare he had. Suddenly a hand gently grasps his shoulder as a gently voice begins to talk.

"Calm down young one. I don't know what you saw, but it was a dream. You and your companion are safe."

Looking behind him quickly he see the old man, Gohan he believes was his name, holding a bundle in his arms. Quickly looking at the bundle, he finds it to be the sleeping form of Prika still wrapped in her cloth. Sighing as he slumps down, he takes a deep breaths to calm down.

"I can sense you have seen a great trauma recently. What happened to you two and where are you from?"

Once again taking a deep breath, the boy begins.

"We were sent away to escape our home planet. Frieza was coming to kill us all and get rid of our planet. My father was warned by Fasha, Prika's mother. Her mate was killed off world but was able to send us a warning. Anything else, I do not know. My parents planned to leave with as many as they could in hopes of continuing the Saiyan race. They sent the two of us separate in case they could not leave with a larger group, promising to see me in the future. I do not know what happened after we left home, but before sleep took us I remember seeing the planet explode. We might be the only ones to leave in before it happened."

"He destroyed a planet!" Gohan says in shock, remembering to keep his voice down as he still holds a sleeping baby. His eyes are wide as he thinks back to his master's training. "Muten Roshi did say his Kamehameha might be able to destroy the moon and I did see it take out a mountain, but to think such a power could exist." He quickly gets over the shock as the baby in his arms starts to stir. The young boy quickly takes her from him before she fully awakens.

"With all the events that have happened, we have not properly introduced ourselves. I am Gohan."

"My name is Kakarot, son of Bardock and Gine." The boy says as the baby begins to cry. He laughs a little before speaking in Saiya-go to her. She begins to calm down and drifts back to sleep. "This one is named Prika, daughter of Fasha and Tora."

"Well Kakarot, how old are you and what do you plan to do?"

"I am 6 years old. Prika is one if you are wondering. As far as what to do, I don't know. I was told the pod has a few weeks of food and learning materials. I do want, no need to be stronger. I need to defend the two of us in case anything happens. I will just have to…" He trails off as he looks up at the full moon just rising over the mountains. Quickly he thrusts the baby into Gohan's arms before starting to quickly move away from them.

"OLD MAN, TIE SOMETHING AROUND HER EYES AND MAKE SURE IT DOES NOT COME OFF. DO NOT LET HER SEE THE MOON!" Kakarot yells as he feels the transformation start. He had just enough time to get away from the two as he started to grow, hair forming across his exposed skin. His face shifted, snout growing from his mouth as his eyes went solid red. Within moments he stands in his Oozaru form.

Gohan gazes up astounded the giant ape which used to be the small six year old boy. Following Kakarot's warning, he rips part of the cloth from Prika's blanket and ties it around her eyes right as she starts to wake again. He watches as the monster in front of them as it takes shaky quick breaths. It looks down seeing them standing there and begins to reach down with its large hand. Using senses he learned as a martial artist, he is shocked at the rage he feels coming from the transformed boy. When he first saw them he felt pure if hardened, as if he was veteran of the worst wars but had not allowed it to corrupt his soul. Now it felt as if rage and more primal instincts were driving the child. He prepares to flee when he sees the hand is not going to them but next to them. The rage begins to recede, still being there but not as great.

Kakarot saw them as he sent his hand towards them, fighting to regain control. He finally gets it and slightly moves his hand to the ground near them. He had trained hard and was close to having full control of his Oozaru form. Knowing what would happen if Prika transformed at this time, he began to dig a small dugout for them to spend the night. It would also help protect them in case he lost control for some reason. He was close to mastering the transformation and hadn't lost control in a while, but was still cautious. Once it was deep enough, he growled out as best he could in common.

"Innnsssssiiiddee, ssssaaffeerrrrrrrr."

Nodding in understanding, Gohan jumps into the dugout as Kakarot lays down on top of the entrance, blocking out any chance the moon light might make in below. Kakarot growls again, fighting the urge to release his aggression, much as his mother trained him to do over the years of training to control the Oozaru. Only this time there was no power ball to simply destroy for the transformation to end. He would endure this and use it to finally master this form. 'I control the beast, it doesn't control me.' He kept repeating as the night went on.

Hours pass with neither Gohan or Kakarot getting much rest. Finally the sun peaks over the mountains. Kakarot glances up to see the moon beginning to set as well. He growls again, satisfied the transformation was about to end. This was the longest he had to be transformed without fighting or being able to move, but he did it. As he feel himself beginning to shrink and the power of the Oozaru leave him, he rolls off of the dugout, allowing the morning light to peak inside. Gohan emerged with Prika still in his arms to as Kakarot returns to his normal state.

With shaky breath, Kakarot looks up at the others as a smile graces his face. "I did it." He managed to say before falling to the ground still grinning at his accomplishment. He knew he would need to get food from the pod for him and Prika, but he needed some time to recover from his transformation. It was getting easier with time, but still took a lot out of him.

Gohan approached Kakarot, finding himself dumbfounded over all the events of the past day. Here where two children from another planet which he had found in their time of great need. They had been sent away in hopes they could survive after the destruction of their home world and could be the last of their kind. Add in what he saw last night he could not help but think maybe fate had something to do with them landing near him. He shuddered at the thought of what some people would do to children from another planet. Humans could be cruel when faced with the unknown. Scientist taking them to experiment on and other evils flashed through his mind. He had many questions about them, but right now, he saw they needed time to rest.

Walking up to the child as he tried to stand, he helps the boy up.

"I need to get to the pod and find some food. I'm hungry and Prika will be as well when she wakes up." he says before he stumbles forward. Gohan catches him before he falls again and helps him walk.

"You need to rest child. I will help you get some food but you will need to rest afterwards. I'm sure your exhausted after everything you have been through."

Making to the pod with the help of Gohan, Kakarot removes the seat to reveal several ration packs for the Saiyans. He prepares two, one for him and one for Prika as Gohan stated he had his own food by the campfire from last night. He blanches at the taste before forcing himself to eat it, knowing while it was not as much as he normally would eat, the ration was meant to keep a Saiyan energy up in battle. After a few attempts he gets Prika, who just woke up, to down her own pack before he finally falls asleep.

Several hours later he awoke to the smell of cooking meat. Sniffing the air, he turns to see several fish skewed over a fire behind him as Gohan attempts go keep Prika from getting too close to the fire. She finally broke his grasp and started to move toward the fire only to be stopped when he reached out and grabbed the only thing he could to stop her, her tail. She shrieked in pain and fell to the ground as he released his grip, surprised by such a violent reaction from his grip. Slowly she got up, still whimpering from the pain in her tail as she brought in front of her. She gave the best glare any one year old could to Gohan, causing Kakarot to laugh at the site.

"Good to see you up child, have a good rest?" Gohan asks, noticing Kakarot sitting up. Prika takes this chance to get one of the fish off the fire and takes a bite before yelping due to how hot it was.

Karkarot laughs lightly again as moves towards Prika. "Now Prika, you know the fire is hot and so would be anything cooking on it." Kakarot says in their native language.

Picking her up as she pouts at him, he walks over to Gohan before sitting next to him. Prika begins to eat the now cooled fish once again. "We are going to need more fish before she is filled. Don't know if I can get her to eat another ration pack when real food is near."

"More, that is the tenth one she has eaten in a half hour. Surely she will be filled by now. Most grown men would be stuff for a day after eating that much."

"Wow, we must really be different then. She will need at least ten more fish for… Say, how long was I asleep?" Kakarot asks as a rumble echoes across the valley.

"I would say close to six hours. It is now nearly two in the afternoon." Gohan responds, looking at Kakarot as another rumble emits from the child.

"No wonder I'm starving. Those ration packs might keep us living, but the are not good at filling us up. Is there a river near where you caught these fish so we can get some more?"

"Yes, I can show you after these are finished, and you can have some as well." Gohan states as he turned the remaining fish cooking over the fire. "I have been thinking as well. Why don't the two of you stay with me. I shudder to think what anyone else would do to two children from another world, and I am a master of martial arts, so I can help you train. Not to mention I have been around the world so I can help you learn about this planet. I was on my way to a nearby village when you both landed so we can continue on tomorrow and I'm sure we can find some things to help teach the two of you as well."

"How do I know this isn't some trick or something?" Kakarot asked while attempting to keep the relief and hope he felt off of his face. Part of him was truly worried this was some trick still. He remembers the stories of how the Saiyans became slaves under the Frost demons through an offer of help. "You don't know anything about us."

"I have had quite the time to do anything to hurt you two," Gohan says with a chuckle. "And while I might not know you, both of you are just children. I have learned a way to feel what people are like. Both of you have pure hearts without evil. Sure I can feel rage and vengeance deep within you, Kakarot, but that in many ways is expected after seeing what you did. Its not as if you are children soldiers sent to destroy everything."

Upon saying this he sees Kakarots eyes widen as shame flashes across his face for a brief moment. He files that to speak about later as he has one major question he wants answered.

"I must ask though, what was the giant ape you became last night?"

"Oh, the Oozaru form. With enough moonlight we change into the Oozaru, making us stronger. Usually a full moon is required or a power ball that someone has made. I have been training for a while in order to control the form. I guess last night was a full moon. I am glad Prika was asleep when the moon came out as she would not have control at her age."

"So it is under a full moon the change happens. If that is the case we have 28 days till the next full moon." Gohan begins to think of ways to keep Prika inside or away from the moonlight during those time. 'I wonder if sunglasses could work. Might have Kakarot try them next time if he decides to stay.' "So how about the answer to my question? If nothing else you two can stay until you find out what to do next."

Kakarot looks a Prika as she goes to grab another fish off of the fire, this time using the stick it is skewed on. He begins to think of how difficult it will be for him to take care of her by himself. He still had a few more years before he would been required to be shipped off to join the Frieza Force just like his brother. He could barely be able to take care of himself, let alone a yearling cub about to be of age to begin learning. Finally setting aside his fears as the Gohan has been very kind towards both of them, he comes to his decision.

"OK, we will stay with you. Just be prepared for raising a yearling cub." He says with an innocent smile on his face. He wonders how Gohan will react in the coming months.
