The city streets were quiet. Moonlight pooled into the simple room as a pair of sleepless eyes watched it land on the bed.
Milton gave up trying to sleep. The pain in his leg was bothering him and his mind swam with thoughts.
His parents were still stuck in Scotland and the house was nice and quiet, he liked it that way. The night air was warm as his sheets sat scrunched up at the end of the bed. His good leg sat up near his chest, the other unwillingly extended in it's cast. His arm unconciously cradled his sore ribs and the other felt the navy blue sheet he sat on, it was soft and smooth under his fingertips. It had been a few days since he was released from the hospital and he was happy to be in his own bed.
He was so deep in thought he almost hadn't heard the subtle creak from the hall. His heart began to beat as he looked around for what could be used as a weapon.
Before he had time his bedroom door opened slowly. In walked a pair of elusive maroon sneakers.
Milton relaxed his shoulders as moonlight fell across her eyes.
"Grey.", he stated with quiet surprise.
She looked at him wondering what to say. His face seemed to of changed ever so sligtly and his muscles seemed somehow toned helping his bones fill out his perfect skin. Adding the moonlight and shaggy ruffled hair with the serious look on his face, well he looked as handsome as one could. But the cut above his eyebrow, slightly weary tired eyes and bandages across his body sent a scared shiver over her scalp.
"I sometimes hack certain peoples info to get alerts of weird activity...you know in case. Your name popped in the hospital database and I just...", she didn't quite know how to finish her sentence.
"I'm okay. Just a few bumps and bruises.", he said as he studied her face. "I missed you.", he said sincerely with almost a crack in his voice.
Her eyes turned watery as she looked away. "I missed you too.". The sight of him was almost too much.
"You're a bad liar.", she added.
"What do you mean?", he asked.
"Bumps and bruises? Look at you. And whatever happened is keeping you awake.".
He looked at her with softened eyes and a sweet smile. "It will be okay, you're here now.".
She smiled wiping her cheek of an escapee.
He smoothed out the sheet beside him that she took as a sweet invitation. The reluctant normally closed off girl walks across the carpet, curled up next to him sitting up against the bed like him. Her head found his shoulder as she carefully ran her fingertips across a bandage on his collarbone.
For a while they just held hands as they breathed in the silence in the moonlight. After a while he ended up telling her the whole story of what had happened, it was hard for either of them to keep the tears at bay.
Before they knew it the blue dusty moonlight had turned into a golden dawn. Reddish orange swam in through the window on rays landing warmly onto the bed, carpet, and wall.
Though they had never been this close, the feeling of their bodies touching was so familiar somehow. Their drowsy eyes soon closed before the sun could fully rise.
When the gang visited later surprised to find the sleeping pair they decided to let them rest and come back later. Jack was the only one who recognized Grey of course though he was just as surprised as the rest and would have to come up with a lie of who she was later, but that could wait. They were just happy to find he had discovered the cure for his sleepless nights.
