Chapter 2: Snape

Last week I was near Diagon Alley, when I saw Snape walking into Knockturn. Of course, I followed him into the dark alley. He seemed to be better groomed than I had ever seen him before. He was actually dressed in a dark suit and wore a hat (maybe to cover his greasy hair). Could old Snivellus be going on a date ? The thought tickled me, and I intended to follow him only to peek at who the fool was. He neared the liquor shop and entered. I followed suit after some hesitation. He paid for a drink and sat alone at a table constantly looking at the door. After a while, I saw him adjusting his hair on the reflection of the glass. I smirked. It was a dingy place, with shady folks lounging outside. They all gave him a look as he entered and then they glanced at each other. One of them left immediately. Now more curious, I followed nearby. I transformed just before entering the street. No one noticed me. The place had an open courtyard which I could enter, no one stopped me. Most of them were in a drunk stupor. There were a few women, who had come with their partners and these couples were too busy to notice a shadowy black dog appear out of nowhere. A thickset heavy man entered the saloon and approached Snape's table. Snape eyed him wearily, but did not flinch. Behind him was a thickset woman who looked like his sister with kohl dark eyes and purple eye-shadow. She was wearing a live snake around her neck. The man knocked his knuckles on Snape's desk… "yoo C-where-us ?" he growled. "So what if I am" whispered Snape, waspishly as usual, his lip curling famously. "Loo-C-us" asked my sister to meet a handsome guy for a date at this table named C-where-us. You don't look anything handsome". Snape slowly looked at the woman, his face turning shallower than it was, if that was possible. I smirked, looking at the woman closely. She looked like she could knock him down with one hand. She looked at him hungrily. "Hes q-oot", she mumbled. Snape laughed out rudely, but before he could say a word, he was down on the floor, pinned by the man. "How dare you ?". In a moment the woman snarled, lashing out at his face simultaneously. I wanted to stay and enjoy the fun, but the man was strangling Snape who had turned purple and was going to pass out any minute. I needed to keep Snape alive for these fun moments, so I whispered a "Stupefy" at the man and woman hastily before turning away. However Snape saw my eyes in the dark and snarled viciously, but I was out of there in a jiffy. I had to stop laughing on my way back to wipe my tears.

Retelling the story to James was the best part. "Stop it Sirius, please stop describing it ….I can't stand it …." He was on all fours on the couch.. Poor devil, he probably was having a good laugh after a long time. James refilled our glasses, as the laughter finally subsided. James had relapsed into gloom sipping from his glass. I miss those days Sirius… he sighed bitterly. "I know, mate", I said heavily, but we have to bide our time now. Dumbledore says the world is preparing for a cataclysmic event sooner than later. We sipped in silence for a while. The stars dimmed outside. It seemed not so long ago that we had Snape hanging upside down in front of the whole school. Now we were grown-up, James had a family and Harry.. Precious little Harry …. We need to keep fighting for the sake of the world, but James, … James needs to live for Harry and Lily. I swore to protect them at their wedding and I would do so even if it would cost me my worthless life… No one would cry for me anyway.. The Blacks had disowned me long back. The Potters are the only family I have and will have.
