…Like A Wooden Steak Through The Heart…
Author's note/Warning: This is a Yaoi story as in male x male. The pairing is Steve Rogers X Tony Stark. If it offends you, you might want to turn back now. For those that don't mind that, I hope you enjoy the story. All reviews are appreciated.
/warning/: This chapter contains, cursing, a much darker approach to Hotel Transylvania, darkness, horror elements, mention of a brief domestic abuse, mention of stalking, mention of breaking into an apartment and vandalizing, and non-traditional Alpha/Beta/Omega dynamic! The story is dark but not as dark as it sounds… I think. What I planned to be an angsty horrifying horror story turned out to be a hurt/comfort mixed with horror… But oh, well, can't help it! Enjoy
Disclaimer: I will only say this once. I don't own anything and make no profit off this story...
Chapter 1
He didn't know that his life could be any crazier… until he saw him…
.
…
.
Run, run, run; run! That was the only thing running inside his head as he stepped on the accelerator, his breath picking up as he drove deeper and deeper into the darkness, as he threw suspicious glances behind him every now and then just to reassure himself that he wasn't being followed by… him… Running away with everything he managed to pack, wearing the same clothes for days, and an old car that looked too much like it would shut down any moment now… not that he cared or anything, as long as he reached his destination he would be fine; he just needed to reach his safe place to stay in until this mess gets solved for once and for all… and if by a safe place, meant his parents' house that was in River's End upstate New York, so be it.
Steve didn't know how he managed to throw himself into this mess; but by the crazy twist of fate, it happened, and now he was on the run. Steve didn't even know what he did wrong that his life turned into an insane soap drama, but one thing was for sure; as soon as he reached his parent's home, he will end this madness once and for all, even if it meant letting his Pa use his rifle on the asshole that thought it was a good idea to take things overboard… and by overboard, Steve meant breaking into his apartment and vandalize it, and leave him threatening messages… when they started, everything was normal, and Steve thought they were happy… he had loved the flirting and shy smiles and how the older man took things slowly just like Steve wanted them to be; hell! The two of them would make people coo at how cute they were every time they decided to go out. Steve was happy, and he thought he had found the one, but jokes on him, in his happiness; he seemed to have been so blind he overlooked many warning signs that glowed like flashlights in the dark night.
Steve doesn't know when it all went to hell. Still, it was probably after the first time he came to Steve's apartment drunk, demanding that Steve move in with him and when Steve gently guided him to the sofa and tell him to sober up, the man had shouted angrily at Steve, accusing him of cheating and hitting him… that was the first time he raised his hand on Steve. Steve was heartbroken and so in shock that he didn't know how to handle the situation other than allowing his anger to consume him as he kicked the older man out of his apartment and shouted at him that the two of them were over… Steve was hurt, confused, and so angry that the person he loved… thought he loved? Had raised his hand to him even being drunk; if his parents had taught him anything, it was to never take a beating lying down, no matter how the person who raised their voice or hand was precious to him. So the two of them broke up, and Steve went on with his life, ignoring the calls, ignoring the visits, the gifts, pleas, and apologies; not accepting them as he was still riled up from being hit. The two of them had been dating for four months, and then his ex dared to demand that Steve leave his home, life, and friends, and move on with him, and when Steve refused he raised his hand. If that wasn't a red flag, Steve didn't know what was, and he knew if he told Sam about it, then his friend would suffer an aneurysm and demand Steve call the police.
The roses, the gifts, the apologies, and even the visits continued on for months, even when Steve made it clear as day that the two of them were over and that Steve would never accept him back; a fact that brought more anger and screams as his ex, pound on his door and told him how much of a brat and ungrateful bitch he was. By then Steve didn't care if he was a brat, ungrateful, or a bitch, if it was what would get him to leave Steve alone in peace; if one thing that Steve was warned of, and his parents spent years trying to prevent, it was him finding himself in an abusive relationship and dying because of it… his parents had spent all of his childhood telling him about how his mother's sister died because of her abusive husband and how many people are forced into one as the years pass… in the end, Steve's suspicion was confirmed when the gift and apologies turned into threatening messages.
He didn't know how it happened, and how it was possible… it just happened… and Steve's apartment was broken into, his walls painted red with so many threats, and profanities, his furniture all broken and ripped, and his belongings thrown around and broken. That made Steve so angry and furious, that he called the police to tell them what happened, even demanding they take action… only to be greeted by the voice of his ex who asked Steve if he 'Started to see reason or if he should continue?' a frightening knowledge overcome Steve at the fact that the police would not help him, as long as they had him in their forces twisting every word Steve spoke and paint him as the unstable guy in the end. Fearing for his life after the implications that he kept throwing in their short call, Steve ran to his trashed room like the hounds of hell after him and took his suitcase throwing everything he would ever need in it, calling Sam in a panic and telling a brief summary about what happened and how Steve is going to disappear to his parent's house until everything resolved; Sam who by the time knew what happened (But not of his ex stalking him and demanding they get back) had nearly shrieked his head off as he demanded that Steve come with him and Riley, but Steve, knowing that his friends would be targeted next if that happened, declined as he prepared everything and did the only thing that his mind had been screaming at him since he entered his apartment that day.
Run!
Run, run, run, run; run! And Steve did… he packed his bags, locked his apartment, and went to buy a used car under the radar with a false name that was cheap enough, in the hope of the asshole not being able to track him down as he drove toward his parents, knowing that if his Ma and Pa knew about what happened, the two of them would do the impossible to help him resolve this madness with the help of his Uncle. Just to be on the safe side, Steve decided to use the long way home, and not go straight away to River's End in the fear of being followed… and this is how Steve ended up here, driving through a dark forest that everyone around this area knew not to enter; rumors had it that the place was hunted and that the people who went in never managed to find their ways out; not that Steve believed such tales, his fear for his life was greater than the fear of a ghost story that may or may not be true.
Everything was fine, great even! Knowing that he was going to arrive home in three hours instead of two days taking a shortcut through the woods had stilled Steve's nerves a little; ignoring the howls of wolves, and the hoots of owls, Steve continued on his way feeling hopeful… thinking about his Ma's warm embrace as she held him and promised him everything was going to be alright, and his father's protectiveness as he reassured Steve that everything would be fine in the end, he just had to believe in it.
It was about halfway through his journey that the death trap Steve was driving gave up on him, dying in the middle of the forest and leaving Steve gazing in shock and daze, followed by horror at the thought of being stuck in this haunted place (Even if he doesn't believe in ghosts and haunted objects/places/people) so Steve did the only thing he could think of and jumped off the car, going to the engine and tried to fix the mess he found himself in.
A few hours passed, and Steve sighed as he tried a thousand times to get his car started, only to fail once more. The death trap he bought was probably a million years old, that's bound to happen when buying a used car like this for two thousand dollars, he just wishes it could have done that closer to the town or at least somewhere that had cell service so Steve would have managed to call his parents or anyone. Cursing, Steve looked around him, hoping to find something that would help him while he was standing; to his not so surprise there was nothing but thick forest on both sides of this road. "Nice shortcut…" Steve mumbled to himself bitterly, his anger causing him to kick at his tire like that was going to actually do anything.
With nothing to do, and with the knowledge that no one would ever be stupid enough to enter the forest and help; Steve sat on the trunk of the car thinking about the mess he throw himself in; wondering how a twenty-one years old can get himself in so much trouble without even trying… a few hours later there were dark clouds forming in the already darkening evening sky, so Steve got back in the car and closed the door, and tried one more useless time to start the car, only to groan in frustration as it only sputtered before going silent again and completely shutting off.
"Of all the times and places you had to break down in the middle of absolutely nowhere… a haunted nowhere!" He griped, smacking the steering wheel several times in anger, before looking out his window and saw the dark clouds still forming, but nothing had started falling yet. "Guess I'm trapped here for a while." He huffed reached behind him and grabbed the emergency blanket from his backseat, trying to think of a way to solve this problem. Steve went through his bags in the backseat, and took out a hat and some gloves, just as he heard thunder and figured he'd wait for the storm to stop before walking and trying to find some form of civilization somewhere where he could either call a tow truck or get a ride back to his parent's home. As the rain started to pound down on Steve's car, he grabbed his sketchbook (Because yes, he absolutely does have to bring his book with him, if anything, it was to calm his nerves down) and he started sketching the view out his window, getting so lost in it that when he snapped out of his trance, he noticed he'd drawn eyes staring through the trees at him.
Millions of glowing eyes peeking from between trunks and dead branches, watching his every move, waiting for the perfect time to race out and grab him and drag him away… They knew he'd have to leave his car eventually, and when he did-
Suddenly Steve's eyes snapped open as his heart raced and his breathing was fast and shaking, looking around at the trees, Steve saw nothing there besides what should obviously be there and he couldn't help glancing at the sketchbook in his lap and saw no eyes between the trunks he'd drawn. There were no tops on those trunks, meaning he'd fallen asleep halfway through his drawing. Steve sighed and ran his hands over his face; still feeling tense, he risked a glance into the trees again, seeing nothing but wet earth and lights and leaves. Steve looked out again and squinted, focusing on the yellow lights shining dimly in the distance, and Steve got a hopeful feeling in his chest. If he could make it back there, he could maybe call someone and get a ride just in time to continue his way home. Steve got out of the car and grabbed the bag that had his clothes from the backseat, and then grabbed a few snacks from his emergency pack that he could snack on as he walked; it would definitely be a journey, but Steve knew he could make it, so he pulled the straps up his arms, and started his walk.
Steve walked for miles, by that time his feet were killing him, but he was almost there and he wasn't going to stop now; even as the sound of wolves howling in the distance continued to get louder, edging Steve to walk faster. Suddenly, an owl hooted followed by a loud growl, causing Steve to still be in his place; turning slowly behind him and freezing when he saw piercing golden eyes gazing at him… "Jesus, Mary, and Joseph…" Steve breathes, letting out a sound between a choke and a squeak when the owner of one pair of eyes took a step forward, revealing the shape of a huge white wolf… "Oh… my… God…" Steve whispered, taking a step back instinctively, his heart pounding in his chest as fear took hold of him; terror closed Steve's throat as his muscled locked in place, refusing for him to move any additional step.
The golden eyes surrounding him all seemed to get larger as the owners of them decided to reveal themselves, showing a huge pack of wolves, causing Steve's heart to drop to his stomach at the thought of turning into a wolf's food just because he was stupid enough to take this shortcut and having his car broken here, instead of using the usual path or taking a plane to his parents home. Steve was panicking so hard on the inside that he didn't notice the whispering around him until too late…
'A Human?'
'Impossible!'
'How did he find this place?'
'…kill him?'
And so much more that Steve only managed to hear the last part of, which made his face pale so much that Steve was sure his blood had evaporated… by now, the huge white wolf, which was around eight feet (And my God! Do wolves get this big? Is this a dire wolf or something?), stood in front of Steve, a low growl leaving it as its narrow golden eyes taking Steve whose body had gone numb a long time ago that he didn't feel the bags in his hands falling down. A terrified scream trapped itself in Steve's throat as the wolf leaned down to sniff him, unaware of how Steve's brain was shutting down at the thought of getting his throat ripped off; what would his parents do when they realized what happened to him? What would they do when Sam would call them and inform them about his stalker of an ex? Would the police even find his body? Or would he be just another idiot who entered the haunting forest and never left it?
The wolf towering over him seemed to freeze in his place before slowly backing away, gazing at Steve with wide golden eyes as the word. "…Omega?" Left its throat, causing Steve's brain to come to a halt and nearly stopped functioning at the thought of the wolf speaking to him; it was a few seconds later before the wolf shook and started shrinking down, disappearing from Steve's overwhelmed sight and in its place, stood a huge man with slightly long brown hair and icy blue eyes… by then Steve's couldn't do anything other than swaying as he passed out, not aware of the panicked man and wolves around him…
Steve welcomed the darkness…
Groaning, Steve slowly regain consciousness; shifting a little, he winced as he felt his head throbbing, causing him to whine and raise his hand to touch his forehead. "…Brutes, the lots of you! I leave you alone for five minutes, five! Not only did you find an Omega, but you traumatized him to death!" Steve heard a snarl, and winced at the loud voice as he slowly tried to open his eyes, blinking several times to adjust to the darkness, noticing that he was laying on his backpack while being covered by his blanket; not that far away Steve noticed, a woman with a dark hair and red lipstick crossing her arms and glaring at the wolf/man he saw, causing Steve's eyes to widen when the memories of the previous hours slammed into him.
"Oh, come on doll! We thought he was a human! We saw his vehicle just outside of the tower's ground, he smelled like a human and acted like one, I don't know why he smelled like an Omega when he is clearly a human!" The wolf/man… werewolf?! Complained, causing Steve to gulp as he shifted slowly, his breath picking up as he tried to crawl away without attracting the couple's attention, only to freeze when he heard a bark of a puppy (Dog? Wolf? The animal was too huge to be a puppy!) behind him, causing him to freeze in terror as the couple's eyes zeroed on him. "Oh, you are awake…" The man said and before he continued Steve let out a loud shriek that if he didn't know any better he would think a girl had screamed while being chased by a chainsaw man… which in this case it was not far from the truth.
"Oh, my God!" Steve scrambled away, ignoring the wince both the man and woman let out when they heard his loud shriek, if Steve was in his right state of mind he would have taken the time to run away like hell, but his legs were still having trouble standing, so he made do with his back leaning at the tree behind and blasting himself to it hoping to disappear. "Please don't kill me! I swear I won't tell anyone about werewolves existing, I just want to go home!" Steve panted, his eyes darting from the man to the woman to the big pup that was tilting its head at Steve and panting; any other time Steve would have been even fascinated, and thinking of a rational plan to go through this, but ever since he and his 'Though-shalt-not-be-named' ex, Steve had been more paranoid and emotionally unstable in the past three months.
Silence dominated the clearing, as everyone seemed to stare at one another and Steve felt like he was one step away from bolting; the silence was broken, though, by the pup that trotted toward Steve and jumped in his lap, sniffing at him and yapping happily, causing Steve to freeze, looking like he was a second away from a heart attack. "See… he is a human, he doesn't even understand her!" The werewolf stated as he pointed at Steve, causing the woman's eyes to narrow.
"Then why does he smell like an Omega?" She countered, causing the man to shrug his shoulders and turn to Steve who was trying to back away from the overexcited pup in his lap. "Sharon, come here!" The woman growled, causing the pup to flinch and whine, but still comply with the woman's order as she left Steve alone, causing him to let a sigh of relief as he relaxed; it wasn't long before Steve was tense once more when he saw the woman walk toward him and gaze at him for a long time with a puzzled look in her eyes. "Are you alright, sweetheart?" She asked, and Steve nodded his head slowly, causing her to smile softly and come closer to him, ignoring how he scrambled back; she then leaned down to sniff Steve causing him to flinch and shake. "He smells like an Omega… he is an Omega, and he is carrying…" The woman stated as she backed away, causing the man's eyes to widen and for his jaw to drop.
"Look Ma'am, I just want to go home, and I was told this was a shortcut… can I please just go home?" Steve asked in a small voice, causing the woman to press his lips tightly and look at the man behind her who was still looking in shock. "I swear I won't say anything!" This made them press their lips tighter before looking at Steve once more.
"Look kid, I hate to break it up to you… being a creature in a human's world is dangerous… but being an Omega…" That caused Steve to give a confused and frightened noise, wondering about what is all the fuss about being an Omega and people sniffing him… is Omega similar to normal wolves' pack dynamic where Omegas were the stress-relievers and playthings? Or what? From the reaction of the couple, Steve can say that an Omega held a very different meaning. "We can't let you leave the forest; you will be killed if humans knew you are not one of them!" That more than anything made Steve a little angry and a huge part terrified.
"But I am a human! A human! Not an Omega! I don't know what you all going about by saying that I am an Omega!" Steve shouted, scrambling to his feet, ignoring the woman who came to help him stand up. "Look, I don't know what is going on, but I just want to go back home to my parents, is that too much to ask?" Steve noticed how confused and distracted the couple was, taking this as his chance he quickly took his backpack and all but started running away from the crazy couple, hoping against hope that he would outrun them by a miracle.
Steve doesn't know how long he managed to run or if he evaded the crazy werewolves but by then, Steve had reached what looked like a huge hotel, causing Steve to let out a sigh of relief at the thought of finding a phone and calling one of his parents to come and help him from the insanity he found himself in. When he got closer to the hotel, he saw other people walking up and through the door, all of them dressed as monsters and creatures, causing Steve to freeze in his place as he gazed around him with wide eyes. Steve felt his heart picking up, and he was about to turn away and run back to where he came from, but the sight of the crazy couple from before with their pup running toward him and waving frantically caused him to curse and turn around, walking the rest of the way over and blended in with the end of the crowd as they all walked inside.
The place looked more like a haunted and abandon place than a hotel as he got closer, and inside looked like it was right out of a Dracula movie, causing Steve's heart to jump into his throat at the thought of how much trouble Steve had thrown himself in; slowly he spun in a circle, looking around at everyone and everything as he tried to wrap his head around all this; fear taking over, as his breath picked up, as a panic attack nearly descended on him. "You look lost…" A voice came from behind him; causing Steve to jump and turned around, trying to see who had said that, but saw no one. "Wait… you… you look like a human!" The voice shrieked, causing the place to still as everyone turned toward Steve, causing him to cry out as he felt a hand gripping his arm tightly and twisting it behind his back, as every monster and creature turned to him…
"Scott, enough!" A voice snarled causing Steve to flinch and gaze at the caller only to see the werewolf advance on them, a murderous scowl on his face, as he all but ripped Steve from the invisible hands holding him and all but placing him behind protectively. "How dare you attack a member of my pack?" Growled the werewolf, causing a spotter to come from the empty space in front of him, making Steve lean over to see what was going around and who the invisible creature that the werewolf was nearly attacking was.
"But he… he… you… he is a human!" The man (?) replied, causing Steve to flinch at the thought of the speaker being a ghost or something, before he felt a gentle hand on his shoulder, causing Steve to turn and see the woman from before, pulling him gently to stand beside her with the pup on the other side.
"Did you scent him, you moron?!" The werewolf snapped, receiving more sputters from the invisible creature in front of him, as he let out an angry growl. "A moron, that's what you are! Not only did you attack a member of my pack, but you attacked a gravid Omega!" That caused silence to take over the place as everyone held their breaths, and not that Steve was paying attention considering the fact that his mind was stuck on the word 'Gravid' and refused to move on from it, considering the meaning of the world and how the werewolf associated it with Steve as easily as breathing.
"B-b-b-but… O-Omegas a-are nearly… extinct…" Steve managed to hear, not that he was caring about the conversation considering how lightheaded he was suddenly feeling, his mind still stuck on the pregnancy part he was sure that wasn't possible for him at all considering that he was a man; looking around him though, Steven can confirm with his own two eyes that the monsters and creatures of the dark and the ones that considered to be nothing but fairy tales and scary stories to tell in the dark do exist, so why not men who can get pregnant? That thought caused dark spots to dance in Steve's vision, and for the second time that day, Steve's world tilted around as he fainted once more...
Steve couldn't help wondering what kind of insanity his life became…
So what do you think?
I just finished re-watching Hotel Transylvania and why don't you look at that, inspiration struck once more!
And considering it is October, I couldn't help it!
At first, I planned for the story to be as creepy and terrifying as hell, but what can I say, the story wrote itself by itself and shifted the whole plot in seconds… oh well…
Steve is a poor cinnamon roll in this… A terrified one, but still…
Hopefully, Tony would make everything alright!
