Disclaimer: I don't own anything. I don't know who owns the song, it was a background
song from In a Heartbeat, I don't even know what it's called.
A/N: This takes place right after the season finale "Day of Reckoning" The episode
was awesome, but I thought it needed an ending.
Dedication: I don't normally dedicate my fics, but this is an exception. This is
dedicated to a boy in my class named Doug, who we just recently found out has
Leukemia. Please keep him in your thoughts and prayers.
Rebuilding Hope
The students[both teams] had all made it back to find the Institute completely
demolished. Most of them were standing around trying to figure out what to do.
None of them knew. A small group of the kids from the high school had come over
just to see if there was anything they could do to help. But as much as they tried
they couldn't think of any ways to help.
*You find your own guardian angel, tonight the music played*
Kurt was sitting alone watching everyone else. Amanda noticed and she went over
and sat down beside him. He quietly looked away. She took one of his two fingered
hands in her own, rubbing his blue fur with her thumb. She turned to stare
up at the star filled sky.
*And you'll hear a voice sent down from heaven that takes the pain away*
Scott was sitting alone off to the side. He didn't want to be bothered.
Jean went over and tried to talk to him.
"Go away", he said solemnly
She turned to walk away and leave him in peace. But before she did,
she stopped, bent down and quickly kissed his cheek. She turned and walked
away. Scott's cheek glowed. He suddenly wondered why he had asked
her to go away.
*Laughter is the soul dancing*
A little later, Sam had also walked away from the bunch and sat down.
About five minutes later, Rahne had come over in her wolf form, and
curled up in his lap, her nose up against his chest. He had been absentmindedly
scratching her behind her ears, for several minutes and hadn't noticed that she
had morphed back to girl. When he first noticed it, he blushed, but Rahne
made a little purring noise that easily screamed "Don't stop!"
*The day the music played*
"It's not over" Kurt thought as he stared at the night sky, beside Amanda.
"It's not done" Scott mused as he debated whether or not to stand up and go
find Jean to straighten things out.
"We can get through this" Sam thought as he subconciasly noticed that
Rahne wasn't exactly awake anymore.
It wasn't done. The x-men would, with help from their friends and loved
ones, rebuild their future and rediscover Xaviers dream of world peace.
It would not be easy, but they had all relized that nothing that was
worthwile ever came easy. But they could all do it. As long as they had
eachother.
