'Kay, now. This is my full version of the song sung in The Wheel of Time's sixth book, 'Lord of Chaos'. Specific location: 44th chapter, 'The Color of Trust' pages 796-797. I love that song. For some reason, I keep hearing it sung roughly the same tune as square dances or some such. Ah well. The first two verses are directly out of the book; the other three are mentioned briefly enough for me to build on them. I hopes y'like it!

*Revised: Words changed, errors edited. I made a mistake in the fourth verse; I said 'trust is the sound of death'. I'm surprised no one noticed. School's conked me out of my writing fit, so you may not see too much more of these songs until I get free time. Put quotation marks, just to make it pretty. XP

I was going to edit curdling the first time around, but forgot. It was originally made to rhyme with something else, but I changed the wording and forgot all about it. There, 'teeming' and 'stench' do sound better. J Thanks for the suggestions! 'Scent' is usually associated with more positive things, I think, so I didn't use it. ;) Thanks anyway!

Disc: First two verses, concept, and the Wheel of Time series are © Robert Jordan. The rest? MINE.

'The Color of Trust'

'Give me your trust,' said the Aes Sedai.

'On my shoulders I support the sky,

Trust me to know and to do what is best,

And I will take care of the rest.'

But trust is the color of a dark seed growing.

Trust is the color of a heart's blood flowing.

Trust is the color of a soul's last breath.

Trust is the color of death.

'Give me your trust,' said the queen on her throne,

'For I must bear the burden all alone.

Trust me to lead and to judge and to rule,

and no man will think you a fool.'

But trust is the sound of a grave-dog's bark.

Trust is the sound of betrayal in the dark.

Trust is the sound of a soul's last breath.

Trust is the sound of death.

'Give me your trust,' said the king on high,

'Put 'side rank, meet eye to eye.

Trust me to stamp and to seal and decree,

leave the tediousness to me.'

But trust is the stench of hatred teeming,

Trust is the stench of turncoats scheming.

Trust is the stench of a soul's last breath.

Trust is the stench of death.

'Give us your trust,' said the lady and the lord,

'We won't put you to fire and sword.

Trust us to let you do as you wish,

you'll not be trapped like a foolish fish.'

But trust is the touch of a Halfman's sight.

Trust is the touch of the barren Blight.

Trust is the touch of a soul's last breath.

Trust is the touch of death.

'Give me your trust' said the love of your life,

'For you I'd even take a knife.

Trust me to see and to guide you through

you won't regret a thing you do.'

But trust is the taste of a traitor's kiss.

Trust is the taste of saidin's bliss.

Trust is the taste of a soul's last breath.

Trust is the taste of death.

So, is it any good? I personally think there's something wonky with the last verse. It was also hard to find a better replacement word for 'smell'….

Forget it. The whole durn thing is wonky. But I like it. D'you?

For those who don't remember, saidin is the male half of the One Power, the one the Dark One tainted. I'm not saying this on the assumption my readers are stupid,  I'm just saying this because like me, some people might still be a little dazed from reading the entire series in…what? Two weeks? So, like me, you might still be getting saidin and saidar mixed up. Haharr, yeah right. I'm probably the only person who has it switched around from time to time.

^___^ R &R, please?
