As days passed Jade only got asked to the Yule ball that one time but she knew she was going with Cassius, unless he told her otherwise.

She couldn't go with the guy she liked and Ron would have been a good option, as she somehow enjoyed his company but she knew she couldn't do that.

On Christmas night, Jade put on her new dress. Ron had seen it and he told her she would looked amazing, which made Jade smile. She also put on a thin, elegant necklace and long earrings.

Her brown hair was up in a fancy bun and she wore silver heels. Her make-up was simple but she made sure to make her eyes stand out, which now were mostly brown but she knew that once down there they were going to be greener, mostly because of the light.

As she walked down to the common room, she could feel her friends' jealousy and she almost smirked at that. Cassius was waiting for her there, when he saw her he stood up and held her hand so the four of them, along with her brother and his date could go to the Great Hall.

The satisfaction she felt when she saw her friends being jealous of how good she looked and who was her date, and to see several guys looking at her, was just gone by the time they exited the common room.

Jade felt shattered when Cassius didn't say anything to her besides a 'hello, are you ready to go?' He didn't say she looked good or that the dress was pretty or pointed out she was wearing a necklace he had given her for her thirteenth birthday. Nothing.

And she was used to it and normally didn't expect anything like that but after talking to Ron and getting everything out and even being complimented by a Gryffindor, that sort of stuff really bothered her. By the time they got to the Great Hall she was almost crying as she thought this was going to be like that for the rest of her life.

But then she shook her head and blocked the tears from falling. She didn't want to cry in front of three schools and about something stupid and pathetic, as every Slytherin would consider it.

Jade sat in between Lexion and Cassius as they waited for the Champions to arrive. Minutes later they were joined by Draco and his date, Channel. Jade gave him a look of disapproval and he just shrugged, knowing what she was thinking.

Channel was pretty but she couldn't be faker... She only cared about looks and money and she could call you her best friend and then talk dirty of you only minutes later. Her twin Chantel was the same but Channel was worse in that sense.

Minutes later the four Champions walked in, everyone was shocked to see the Mudblood with Viktor Krum and of course, Channel was the first to comment about it.

The four of them danced with their dates and when the song was over they were joined by a few people, including Dumbledore with McGonagall.

"Channel, really?" Jade asked when she found the chance. She had just danced a bit with Cassius but she was done when he stomped on her.

"What? I couldn't come here without a date. You know we pretend this isn't important but it sort of is. If I came alone, everyone would talk about it..."

"Why didn't you ask... you know?" Jade asked him, referring to the girl he was supposed to marry.

"Honestly, because I can't stand her," Draco admitted as Jade took a sip of his drink. Draco didn't mind. "But now I'm realizing that Channel is just as annoying. Damn it."

"It took you about four years to realize that," Jade said, rolling her eyes at him.

Jade turned to look around and found Cassius flirting with some girls from Beauxbutons. Her stomach turned. They weren't basically in an official relationship and he could even kiss them if he wanted, they were 'free' until they announced their engagement, of course it wasn't seen right to be with anyone else but some still did it.

She didn't like him at all in that sense but she felt like he wasn't respecting her. Especially when they came to the ball together and they were in the same room. She tried to remind herself that he was free to do it for now but it still hurt her.

"What an asshole," Draco exclaimed as he looked the same way Jade was and spotted him.

"It's alright," she said with a smile to hide her pain. "You know how this works. It's nothing."

"Can I tell you something?" Draco asked her in her ear, and she nodded. "He is an idiot... You look absolutely gorgeous in that dress. If I were him, I would be here with you and not with those plain girls..." Draco said to her, making her blush.

Jade didn't know what to say, it was so unexpected. She had never blushed, especially to something her best friend had said to her and she hated the heat sensation in her face. And she hated to show how she felt. She looked down first but then at him and she smiled. She appreciated his words, and she knew they were true.

"Well, I don't care about him," she half lied. "And thank you! Really."

Maybe she didn't get the compliment from her future husband but she got it from her best friend and that cheered her up, spending the night with Draco was better anyway.

"I know we didn't really dance well that time, but want to dance?" Draco asked her.

"Really?" Jade asked smiling. "You want to dance?"

"You owe me one remember," Draco pointed out. "So save me from Channel, please."

"Right," she chuckled. "I'm your best friend. I'd save you from here even without owing you."

Draco's smile vanished for a bit but then he stood up, and offered his hand to her. Jade gladly took it and let him led her to the dance floor. To be honest, now that they didn't matter to anyone and they weren't the centre of attention, they started dancing and they were doing it pretty well. Draco was actually really good.

They laughed and enjoyed the moment, forgeting about everything else. Yes, Cassius could be even kissing one of those girls but Jade didn't care anymore. He wasn't in her mind anymore. Draco was. She wasn't going to let him make her feel unattractive or not important, like she was feeling earlier.

The slow songs ended and a famous musical group, the Three Witches, came onto the stage and the real party began. She still kept dancing with Draco and they even managed to get some alcoholics drinks, passed to them by some Bulgarian guys. So that made them care even less about everyone around them and enjoy the moment more.

They both returned to their table when Jade complaint about pain in her feet. She sat down and took off her heels and drank some water. To their surprise lots of students had already left by then, including Cassius, Channel and Chantel, Pansy and her date, and some others. The room was half empty now.

Then the slow songs started again, Cedric Diggory was seen going back to the dance floor with his girlfriend, Cho Chang from Ravenclaw. And Longbottom was dancing with the youngest Weasley.

Draco went to the bathroom and Jade took the opportunity to walk towards Ron, who looked miserable. He had found a date but apparently she had abandoned him. She had noticed him a while ago but she couldn't approach him until now.

"Listen, Weasley..."

"What are you doing here, Lias?" Potter asked her.

"Shut it, Potter!" she said in a authoritive tone and Potter was so miserable too that he did shut it.

Jade decided it wouldn't be smart to speak in front of Potter so instead, she grabbed Ron by her elbow and dragged him away from Potter, which wasn't smart either.

"I know I couldn't come with you but we can dance one song," she told him. "And that's it. Cassius is not here. My brother isn't here either so let's do it."

Ron didn't like dancing, he couldn't dance. But he accepted. Dancing with Jade was the most exciting thing that happened to him that night. His date had run off with a student from Durmstrang and he was all alone with Harry.

Jade didn't get too close to Ron but she did put her hand on his shoulder and she actually led him, Ron just followed and she was lucky to be quick enough to avoid being stomped on by him, as she was barefoot.

"I told you, you would look amazing. You do," Ron said when the song ended. "I understand we couldn't come together, but doing this, dancing with me is one of the nicest things you've done."

"Don't ruin it, Weasley," she said rolling her eyes.

"It's true, though."

Some minutes later after Jade went back to sit at the table, she was joined by Draco once again. She wondered why he took so long but she didn't ask. They did dance a bit more and they were actually one of the last people to leave the Great Hall.

Jade laughed along with Draco as they walked back to the common room, well he walked. He gave Jade a piggyback, she had her arms around his neck and he had his hands under her thighs. She had her heels in one of her hands.

"Now you owe me again," Draco said as he went down the stairs.

"I do," Jade said. "I wish there was a spell to make heels comfortable."

Before they went inside the common room, Jade kissed Draco's cheek without thinking as a way to thank him but soon she regretted it. She bit her bottom lip and cursed in silent.

"I'm sorry..."

"It's okay," Draco said with a chuckle. "I don't mind."

Draco put her down softly when they were in front of the common room. She could feel how cold the floor was under her feet.

"Thank you for making this night worth remembering," Jade told him with a smile.

"Nah... thank you!" Draco said with a shrug.

"I know I didn't tell you earlier but you look really good," Jade said nervously, she looked down and for some reason she blushed again. She felt weird complimenting someone as she never did it. "Those clothes really suit you."

Jade expected him to say something arrogant like usual. He was arrogant and she was sarcastic. They both knew about it and both sort of loved that about the other. But to her surprise Draco didn't say anything in an arrogant way.

"Thank you, Jade," he said in a very sincere tone. "I guess that helped me to spend the night with such a gorgeous girl."

"No, it didn't... I'm not gorgeous, I just looked good for once," Jade said looking away. "And.. I would have spend the night with you even if you had worn... anything."

"That didn't sound good, Jade," Draco said smirking and she rolled her eyes, blushing again.

"Shut up, Draco!" she exclaimed as she finally turned around and walked into the common room, which was empty.

"You didn't just look good for once, you know, right?" Draco said, stopping her in her tracks just as she was about to go up to the girls dormitory.

"So I never look good?" Jade asked with a chuckle, but Draco didn't laugh.

"You always do."

"I think you drank too much, Draco. Good night."
