The next day, Ravenclaw and Hufflepuff had their match of Quidditch but Draco didn't go to see it. He took his homework and spent all weekend by Jade's side.
He could hear the cheering and the commentator but he couldn't be sure who had won the match, not like he actually cared at the moment.
The Weasley twins and Ron visited after the match. Ron still looked pale and he couldn't even look at Jade from the guilt he felt. If Draco hadn't caused the same damage, he'd have probably killed Ron, but he was just as guilty.
Potter also visited but on his own and just before dinner. He looked sad but the remorse that was written all over Ron's face wasn't in Potter's, not like it should because he was the only one that didn't actually harm her.
As the night before, Draco had to return to the cold Slytherin common room by 22:00. He begged Madam Pomfrey as it was Saturday but she was firm and didn't change her mind.
Draco didn't linger in the common room, he barely paid attention to see who was still there so late. Back in his dormitory, the boys were still up and he cursed mentally as he didn't really want to talk to anyone.
"How is she?" Blaise asked, even though he knew the answer.
"No change at all," Draco said, looking at the floor.
Blaise and the whole school obviously knew what had happened because of the twins, who made sure to tell every living and not-living soul in the school, and they even added details that never happened.
Some people thought it was Potter and Draco who had actually harmed her, and Ron was only taking the blame for his friend. Or that it was just Draco and to look good he was blaming Ron.
Too many rumours had been made and there were at least six different versions of what happened. But Blaise knew the real version.
The night before, Draco had avoided every one and gone to sleep but in the middle of the night he was woken up by Blaise because he was having a nightmare. Draco couldn't take it any longer and told Blaise what happened.
"It was an accident," Blaise repeated but Draco still kept saying it was all his fault.
Draco sat on his bed, rested his elbows on his knees and put his head against his hands. He messed up his hair a bit, he took a deep breath and then lifted his gaze, looking at the window.
"She will be alright," Blaise muttered. "She's Jade, she can't be defeated by something like this."
"She hasn't gotten better," Draco said to him.
"She hasn't gotten worse either," Blaise stated. "She just needs some time to recover."
How long, though? That was what Draco wanted to ask but who could answer him? Not even Madam Pomfrey could be certain of that.
"Have her parents been informed?" Draco asked Snape on Monday before the class started. He wanted to be with Jade but Snape hadn't allowed him to skip classes or even Quidditch training.
"After she didn't wake up the first night I sent them a letter."
Draco nodded sadly. The Lias family had known since Saturday morning and they hadn't visited Jade yet. Maybe they thought it wasn't serious enough.
"Did they even reply?" Draco asked outloud.
Snape didn't answer his question but gave him a look and Draco knew he wasn't supposed to ask things like that. He nodded once again and went to sit next to Blaise, who had just walked in.
That day it snowed even more and that made Draco even more miserable and sad. Jade loved the snow, it was almost like something was making sure that Draco was feeling even more guilty or at least he felt it that way, everything he did or saw reminded him of her.
Like during Potions, his potion turned the same shade of green as Jade's eyes when she was happy. During lunch she saw another student with pink hair. And during Divinations Trelawney did mention something about her. And during a normal talk someone mentioned Jade... but they were talking about the rock not her Jade.
On Wednesday, Miles Bletchley was starting to say they needed a new captain and they needed to train every day and possibly get a new chaser.
"Are you crazy?" Draco almost shouted at him. He hadn't really paid attention to anything until he heard her name.
"She's been unconscious for almost a week, we need someone in charge."
"And you are thinking you must be in charge."
"Naturally," he said proudly. "I'm the one that has been in the team for longer and the one with more experience."
"You or anyone else won't be the new captain until Snape makes the decision. And we aren't getting a new chaser, as we don't need one." Draco said and stormed out.
He might have sounded pretty sure that Jade was going to be alright but he was scared of losing her, of never being able to talk to her again. Not even being able to apologize, not only for sending her to the Hospital Wing but for everything he had done lately.
On the other side of the castle, Ron was trying to do his homework but he couldn't concentrate. He felt guilty. Jade was all he had in his mind. It had been days and he still couldn't concentrate at all.
"What if I killed her?" Ron said outloud without realizing as he closed his History of Magic book.
"You mean Jade?" Harry asked.
"Obviously."
"You didn't kill her. She's not dead, Ron. She's just... unconscious."
Harry was just trying to reassure Ron. He knew he was making it seem less serious than it was. Being unconscious for five days wasn't good.
"Because of me!" Ron said loudly.
"You don't know if it was you or Malfoy."
Again, Harry was just being nice. He knew Ron's spell had hit her just as Malfoy's did. He saw it. It was bizarre. The whole scene played in his mind in slow motion, but after she was hit everything was sped up.
"It was both, you saw it, I saw it, Malfoy saw it, those damn twins saw it and still lied about what really happened," Ron exclaimed, getting angry as he thought of those girls. "So, yeah, I'm to blame here. I really didn't see her. I was just so angry. I didn't think, just acted. If I hadn't been so hot-tempered, I'd have seen her and this wouldn't have happened."
"You should really stop thinking about it, Ron," Hermione said, being fed up with the whole Jade situation. She wasn't happy about what happened to Jade but she couldn't say she did miss her.
"How can I stop thinking about it?" Ron shouted, annoyed. "I caused it. It's my fault."
"I highly doubt that," Hermione said calmly, barely looking up from her homework. "I'm pretty sure she'll be alright and she'll go back to make our lives living hells, so, why are you even concerned about her? It's peaceful now that she's gone and that Malfoy is too sulky to care about us."
"How can you even say that?" Ron exclaimed, shocked. "I admit she was pretty mean before but she's changed, Hermione. What has she done to you this year? She is my friend! Why can't you just get that?"
"I'm on Ron's side, Hermione," Harry said, scratching the back of his neck. He knew Hermione was now glaring at him and he didn't really want to hear her out. "Look, she has showed she is not that bad. She helps people in the meetings. Neville has improved so much because she helps him out."
"We don't really know if she's there to spy on us or..."
"And I know you don't care about Quidditch," Harry said quickly, interrupting her. "But she punished Crabbe for what he did. She even punished Malfoy and they are best friends. You weren't there, either of you, but she tried to stop Malfoy that day. She got pretty upset at the things he was saying. Lias is not the same Lias we knew."
Hermione glared more intensively at Harry, while Ron nodded at each word Harry was saying. He wasn't there to hear what Malfoy had said but he knew what Jade had done and said that day. Fred had told him.
"What if she doesn't wake up?" Ron suddenly asked. "That would mean I killed her... how am I going to live with that?"
"Don't be ridiculous!" Hermione exclaimed.
"She will," Harry said, hoping that she would wake up but not being sure if she would. But he hoped he sounded sure enough to give some hope to Ron.
Hello guys!
Today was a pretty good day, I woke up at 4:30 am. Exercised and was done before 7:00. I continued to work on my video (it's rendering atm) I did some other things and I actually wrote most of this chapter as I didn't like it.
And now I feel ready to go back to bed LOL
So, tell me, how long do you think Jade will be unconscious?
