Days kept passing, Jade looked even paler now, at least to Draco. He sat next to her bed once again, she had gotten some gifts and letters, wishing her to recover. He was surprised to see that only a quarter of those were from Slytherins.
One day before the students were going back home for the Holidays, Jade was taken to St. Mungos so she could get better care, Draco asked for permission to leave with her, which Snape granted after he notified the Malfoys and they were okay with it.
Narcissa was the first to arrive, she had some flowers for Jade. When she asked what had happened, Draco almost started crying. He told her the truth and Narcissa just patted Draco's back. Lucius arrived later but didn't stay for long and didn't ask much, at least not to Draco but to the healers.
Draco returned the following morning and it wasn't until after lunch time that finally Jade's mother went to the hospital.
"What happened to her hair?"
It was in that moment that Draco understood why Jade refused to tell her parents about Umbridge's punishment. Jade had been unconscious for about three weeks and a half now and instead of asking if she was okay, or how it happened or anything about that, her mother asked about her hair. And no one had bothered to visit her until she was moved to St. Mungos.
Draco looked away as he knew that if he opened his mouth he wouldn't be able to control himself. His parents were cold and cruel but even his own mother showed more concern than Raven Lias.
Days passed and Christmas was only four days away. Draco visited every day. Sometimes he saw Jade's mother, sometimes not. Only once he saw her father, Finley. And he had seen Lexion and his wife-to-be twice.
He was worried about his sister, the concern could be clearly seen in his eyes but things took a turn and Draco wanted to kill him when he started asking about Quidditch. But Draco enjoyed telling him that Jade now shared the record of most goals scored, and Lexion only pretended to be happy, but he was dying from envy, as now his younger sister had scored two more goals than him, ever.
Draco heard familiar voices later that day, he frowned and stood up. He opened the door and sure enough the Weasleys and Potter were there. They all stopped dead in their tracks when they saw him.
"What are you doing here?" Ron demanded.
"What do you think?" Draco shot angrily. Ron look confused, why was he supposed to know? It seemed the others had figured it out though, George even elbowed Ron, but Ron was still clueless. "Jade was brought here."
"Jade?" Ron asked, getting pale. "Hasn't she gotten better?"
"No." Draco answered.
"Can we see her?" Ron asked. Draco wasn't happy about it and he wanted to say no but then he remembered Jade telling her how the Weasleys had helped her so he let them in just because of her.
Fred and George stayed for five minutes but then left, before leaving though, they gave Draco the piece of gum that should turn her hair back to normal. Draco made sure to keep it safe and not lose it. Ron was the next to go, he whispered a 'I'm so sorry' and then left too with his head hanging down.
Guilt was still eating him inside and seeing her in the same condition and with Christmas being around the corner didn't help. He never forgot about Jade but he sort of hoped there had been some improvement and now that he knew there hadn't been any, he was reminded of everything that happened and it felt like a hard slap in the face.
Potter looked at Draco intensively once Ron had left. Jade was here because of all of them but everything started with a rumour that wasn't true. Draco either pretended to not notice the stares or he was too worried to even feel it.
"She is not dating Ron, Malfoy," Potter told him, making the blond boy to finally look up at him. "Or having flings with his brothers. Zacharias Smith made it all up as a revenge."
"Why would he do that?" Draco muttered.
"Because he doesn't like her, he doesn't trust her for being a Slytherin. He saw the two of you kissing in the Quidditch field and he told that lie to those twin girls in Slytherin because he knew they would tell you and then create conflict."
Potter saw how Draco's usually pale face got red. He didn't deny kissing her and when Draco turned to look at Jade, that look he had in his eyes was enough for Potter to confirm that Draco did fancy her and care about her a lot. If they kissed or not, he wouldn't know, but Potter would bet it did happen.
"Why are you telling me this?"
"Because you like her, don't you? And to clear things up. That lie made all of this happen and I don't think it's fair that you've spent all this time believing that lie and Jade isn't even capable of defending herself right now," Harry said. "Ron was only a friend to her when she needed a friend. Nothing more than that."
"It doesn't matter now, does it?" Draco said, almost breaking down. "She's unconscious, has been for weeks. I don't even care right now if it was true or not, I want her to be okay, not matter what."
"She'll be okay," Potter told him, but it gave Draco little comfort as he was losing hope.
What made everything worse was that they were fighting when it happened. Draco and Jade hadn't talked for almost a month and Draco had been quite nasty to her. If Jade didn't wake up... or if she died... Draco didn't know what he would do. Losing his best friend and in that way would tear him apart... and he was also responsible for it. That was the worst part, he was responsible for Jade's state.
Draco broke down when Potter left and he was alone again. Draco wished he hadn't believed the rumours and even if they were true, she was still his best friend. He wished he had confronted her instead of avoiding her, being understanding instead of being nasty. He wished he could see her smile again and see those eyes at least one more time.
Draco believed Jade had the most unique eyes he had ever seen. Sometimes they were green, sometimes brown, sometimes in between and they not only changed with the weather or light, they changed with her mood too.
He remembered that when they were six years old she had told him she wished she could have blue eyes like her father or green like her mother and brother but six-year-old Draco told her that her eyes were prettier and she was lucky to have them. Since that day Jade liked her eyes. Sometimes she didn't like that they showed her emotions. People that knew her well, could tell how she was feeling because of the colour of her eyes. Dark brown when she was angry, A light green with some brown when she was sad. A medium green with that little blue circle in one of her eyes when she was happy and a medium brown with just a little green when she was worried.
Draco didn't know that he knew the pattern until now that he was thinking about it. She could have a poker face that could fool anyone but Draco somehow knew how she actually felt and it was until then that he knew why.
One day before Christmas's eve Draco had spent all day in the hospital. His mother had spent a couple of hours with him so he wasn't as alone but then she left as she had things to do and prepare for Christmas. It was late at night, he sat closer to her bed and grabbed her hand and cried.
"Jade, please, I miss you," he whispered. "Please wake up."
Maybe two minutes later, Draco lifted his head and looked at her, he thought he had seen her hazel eyes open, but a part of him couldn't believe it. Maybe his mind was playing tricks on him, he was extremely tired and had just woken up from a short nap.
He looked at her again and Jade was indeed awake. Draco instantly forgot about his fatigue, his sleepiness, his sadness. He stoop up at once and caressed her face. Jade's face only showed confusion.
"You are awake!" Draco exclaimed happily, smiling for the first time in about two months.
He ran out of the room to find a healer, within two minutes he found a female healer and told her that Jade had woken up from her coma. She followed Draco back to the room, where Jade still lied in the same position. A part of Draco feared that she wasn't going to be awake anymore.
The woman checked Jade, her heartbeat, her blood pressure, her pupils, everything, while Draco just watched.
"What did you say?" Jade asked in a raspy, whisper. Her eyes fixed on the healer. Draco almost forgot what her voice sounded like.
"Nothing," the healer said kindly and she had indeed said nothing. "Do you know where you are?"
"In St. Mungos, I'm guessing."
"Do you know what happened to you?"
"No."
"Do you know what day is today?"
"Eh, Friday?" she guessed. The accident happened on a Friday.
"What is your full name?"
"Jade Leonie Lias," she whispered.
"Do you recognize him?" the woman said pointing at Draco.
"Of course, Draco."
"Your parents' names?"
"Finley and Raven."
"What month is it today?"
"November."
"Year?"
"Nineteen ninety-five. Okay, why are you asking me all these questions? What is going on? Why am I here?"
"You were in a coma for about a month. It's not November anymore. It's Christmas Eve. From what we were told you were hit by two spells at the same time." At that Draco looked down and felt guilty. "We don't know the spells that were used so we need to check your mental state."
"But I'm okay, right?"
"Seems like it. I'll call your parents. Excuse me."
"I'm sorry," Draco said immediately after she left.
"Why?" Jade asked confused.
"You are here because of me. I thought you weren't going to wake up."
Draco embraced her and broke down crying. Jade hugged him back but she realized her whole body was stiff, probably for not moving for a whole month. She had never seen Draco crying and she was shocked. But she didn't bring it up, her voice was raspy and it was hard to talk. And she was still a bit confused about waking up in a hospital.
Draco stayed with her all night. She woke up around 1:00 am and it wasn't until 9:00 that both her parents showed up. Draco couldn't help but roll his eyes when he saw them. They should have arrived the moment they were notified their daughter had woken up.
As they still wanted to keep an eye on Jade, they didn't let her go home so she spent Christmas in St. Mungos. Her parents, Lexion, Olisca, Cassius and his parents spent a few hours with her but then they left. Saying they had guests over at their houses.
Draco noticed something weird, though. Lexion and Jade were quite close. They cared and loved each other, but she looked scared when Lexion sat next to her on the bed. Not even when she was in a coma, she was as pale as she was at the moment.
Cassius, who was on the other side of the bed, put his hand on her shoulder and she shuddered. No one noticed but Draco and he found her behaviour weird, he never acted weird around him, or his brother. Maybe she wasn't feeling well, or was dizzy or just tired, or she was upset they were leaving her for some guests.
"Is something wrong?" Draco asked her once they were alone once again. Jade shook her head but somehow Draco knew she was hiding something.
A bit late but here it is! And Jade woke up!
So maybe two chapters ago I mentioned I wanted to do a Merlin/Morgana video but had issues, which I sorted out. And I finished the video. If you like Merlin or just want to check it out I'll post the link here, but if it doesn't work, just let me know.
I want to do another one to be honest :)
