19. Cold
It was cold, very cold, and Sally shivered as the wind blew harder. It seemed to be mocking her, finding great pleasure in reminding her of how cold it was and that she lacked a jacket to keep her warm. Snowflakes fell like angels from Heaven, and snow covered every inch of the ground. It looked like a beautiful winter wonderland, and Sally marveled at the gorgeous sight.
Her teeth chattered and clacked loudly, her body trembled as she continued shivered almost violently, and coldness seemed to seep deeply into her body, trying to freeze her very soul with its freezing touch.
"Here." Startled, she peered at her silent companion. He didn't bother looking at her. He simply stopped walking, as did she, and, with an outstretched hand, held out his leather jacket to her.
"Won't you be cold?" She longed to wear that jacket and bask in its warmth because she was freezing her pretty little butt off, but she also didn't want Shadow to suffer from the cruel chill of the winter wind. Shadow chuckled quietly, crimson eyes finally looking at her. He had one of those rare, content smiles on his face, something he seemed to be doing more of whenever he was in her presence.
"Your kindness truly knows no boundaries, but I'll manage. It's you who'll be cold if you don't wear something. Take it." And Sally did as he said, carefully putting it on and zipping it up halfway. Her body began warming up almost immediately, her shivers ceased, and the noise from her chattering teeth died out.
Her nose was assaulted with his scent, and she inhaled deeply, greedily drinking down his heavenly aroma.
"Better?" he asked, his voice laced with amusement. She nodded her head, submerging herself deeper into the jacket's wondrous warmth.
"Much better."
