"YOU TOLD ME THAT YOU WOULDN'T BREAK ANYTHING!"
Appo should have known better, he did know better than to let the troopers have a barracks party. He should have just taken away the alcohol as soon as he saw it. He shouldn't have let it get this far. Maybe if he had, half of the barracks wouldn't be on fire right now.
"Hey, hey," Fives came wobbling into view, "It's not broken yet, just on fire."
Appo was tempted to strangle the man and he probably would have too if the set of bunks that was raging like an inferno didn't crumple at that moment. The amount of flames coming from a metal bed frame was honestly concerning. But what was even more concerning was the fact that the fire alarms hadn't gone off yet.
Cricket and Hardcase were running back and forth from the bathroom with handfuls of water trying to douse the flames. They were laughing like idiots, drunk idiots. He growled at Fives and the ARC new better than to get any closer.
Appo pulled the fire hydrant off the wall and angrily pulled the pin and began to douse the flames. He grumbled and cursed under his breath the whole time. He went to check one thing and by the time he got back things were on fire. By the stars he just wanted Rex to come back to keep everyone in line.
There was an awful groaning noise and then a cracking splinter. Right before his eyes the floor splintered open and swallowed the smoldering bed frame, sending it falling to the next floor down. No, scratch that, he didn't want Rex back. Preferably not for weeks, not until he could get that fixed.
The room was silent, everyone held their breath, unsure of what his reaction was going to be. Everyone had sobered up rather quickly at the sight of the bunks falling through the floor. Appo's eye was twitching, all he had wanted was a drink and a nice night, but these di'kuits had to go and mess it all up. He took a deep breath, "YOU MOTHER F-"

The Hippo shuddered as it entered the atmosphere, Rex and Dagger exchanged a glance. The atmosphere was thick and filled with foggy clouds. It was hard to tell whether it was day or night with the misty grey of the air. The ship jerked as it landed on the ground, not much had been said since they took off.
Dagger couldn't quite tell if it was just in her mind or if there was actually tension filling the air as they made the journey to Utrost. Either way she spent most of the time thinking about Azariah's words. A private prison on Utrost. An employer who had hired them to capture senators, alive, and bring them to this prison that she had never heard of. She couldn't imagine who would be motivated to capture and keep senators in secret, but she did know that they would need to tell the GAR about what they had found as soon as possible.
She bounced her knee under the table until she felt a weight settle over it. Her head snapped up as she realized that someone had slid into the seat next to her, disrupting the solitary moment she had been having.
Jask had a wide smile on his face as he asked, "So how was your first mission with us? I think it went well."
She slid over a bit, as if to make more room for him, but in reality to slip her leg away from his touch, "Yeah it went well. Nothing to complain about."
"You don't seem like the complaining type," he paused for a moment, "That was some sharp shooting up on that hill."
"It wasn't anything special, I only took out three of the targets from outside. It looked like you all had a lot more to deal with inside than I did."
"It's nothing that we couldn't handle sweetheart. That cl- Rex did better than I was expecting. Lemme ask you something."
She just looked at him, waiting for whatever his question was since it was unlikely that he would be leaving any time soon. Sure enough he continued on, "So is he special or are all of them like that?"
She tilted her head, "What are you asking?"
"Are all the clones like him?"
"Like him? Jask, he's a clone. He was part of a clone army, of course the others are like him. It is kind of the whole point."
He took a second to think, "It just makes me wonder. Rex is a good fighter, better than most that I have seen. If there is a whole army of men just like him, why is it that this war has gone on for so long? I mean I'm not complaining, the war is good for business. I had just been under the impression that both armies were incompetent which made the war go on and on…"
He trailed off as if the thought was still forming in his mind and he needed more time to figure it out. To Dagger the thought hit pretty hard. He was right, the GAR was competent, its men some of the best in the galaxy. The Separatists had the numbers, but in tactical advantage that was about all that they had. There were only so many strategists in their army where the GAR had no short supply of strategists and plans.
The GAR was a better army. That was just the truth, so why hadn't the Republic been able to make any war ending victories. Why had they not been able to get more than a battle or two won before they were pushed back in the opposite direction? How had this war gone on for almost three years now and neither side had won? Now that the thought was in her head she couldn't find a suitable answer.
Her vod were the best warriors in the galaxy. Jango had been hand picked by the Kaminoans, known as one of the best bounty hunters ever. His own DNA was replicated and perfected to make millions of her brothers, to make her. She refused to believe that there was anything wrong with them. Something wrong with her? Sure, but not them. They were competent and skilled. The perfect recipe to end a war. A war that was still raging. Something about Jask's statement had brought it to the front of her mind, something wasn't adding up.
"Azariah says it is time to go," Rex's deep voice cut through her thoughts, bringing her back to reality. She looked at him for a moment as her eyes focused again. Jask stood and made his way out giving him a pat on the shoulder. Rex didn't bother to look at the man, instead turning his gaze to Dagger who was slowly standing, a deeply contemplating look on her face.
He tilted his head in question, "Everything ok?"
She grabbed her helmet from the table and slid it on, hiding her expressions away, "We need to focus on our mission."
"That's not what I asked," he wasn't quite sure what was going on, but Dagger looked spooked.
"We can talk about it later, I'm fine Captain I promise."
She slipped away before he could ask any further. He certainly would be asking about it later, whatever had made Dagger get that look on her face would have to have been something important. For now he let her go, they needed to disembark. She was right, they did have to focus on the mission.
Rex honestly didn't know what he had been expecting from a private prison on Utrost. The only prison he had seen was the one on Coruscant, a building in the middle of the city that housed some of the most notorious criminals in the Republic. This, however, was a completely different story.
A fortress if Rex had ever seen one. A hulking, square building with tall walls made of dark stone. The building wasn't overly tall, probably about ten floors, but it seemed to loom above them as they walked into its shadow. On the front face of the building were characters in a language that Rex couldn't read or even identify. That had to be the name of the complex.
He tried to memorize the lines of the characters so he could look it up later. He hoped that Dagger was recording this on her helmet, but he wasn't counting on it. He didn't even know if the helmet had a recording function, she may not have been able to test it out enough to find out everything about it yet. At least on Kamino they got in depth courses on all the features of their armor before they shipped out. Dagger hadn't even been given a crash course.
Whether she was recording or not, the group kept moving forward, passing through the massive stone door that stood a good ten feet taller than Rex. The doors slid open with ease as they were retracted into the wall by an unseen and surprisingly quiet mechanism.
Raybin held Senator Voe Atell by the cuffs that were secured behind her back. She was pulling and tugging against him, but it was obvious to everyone watching that she had no chance of escape. Rex just looked away, he didn't feel any sympathy for the Separatist Senator and there were more important things to watch out for than her.
He didn't know who this prison belonged to, but at least there was one less Seppie out and propagating this war that was killing his brothers. Inside of the prison was a large stone room, the light inside was a dingy grey light.
There was a door and window of transparisteel along the wall that seemed to separate this room from the rest of the prison. Jask led their group over to that window and Rex saw that it was a check in of sorts, likely to begin processing their prisoners.
He hung back a bit as Jask and Raybin approached the being that was working behind the transparisteel, but stayed close enough to be able to hear what was being said.
The Chagrain looked up from the datapad she had been working on, "Ah, Jask and the crew. Back so soon?"
"Of course, love, I couldn't stand to be away from your beauty for one second longer," he responded leaning casually on the counter.
She rolled her eyes at his flirtations, "As charming as ever Jask. Who did you bring for us today?"
Jask turned to the side and gestured to their hostage, "Senator Voe Atell."
The chagrin responded but Rex tuned out for a moment as he looked behind him. He spotted Dagger hanging back from the group. She was leaning up against the wall, an arm hanging behind her back. She looked like she was completely relaxed, the sight put Rex on edge. She had looked so anxious earlier and now she seemed completely relaxed.
They were in a hostile territory and she was just lounging on a wall. Rex knew that they were playing a part, but that didn't mean that she could just let her guard down, he would have to talk about that with her l-
"And the clone? Is that ten-ten?" the lady asked. The statement set Rex's nerves on fire and he reached for his blaster. He scanned the room, trying to look for signs of a trap, had he walked himself and Dagger right into danger? Did they know that he was actually still part of the GAR?
"What Rex?" Jask scoffed, "Nah, he's a deserter. We picked him up before our last op, good addition to the crew. Besides, ten-ten is so low on the list we won't get to him for weeks."
Rex let a bit of the tension in his shoulders release at Jask's words. Not a trap then, at least not one for him. But if she thought that they were bringing in a clone for capture then one of his brothers was in danger. He would have to contact the GAR as soon as possible to warn them and tell them about the prison.
Ten-ten. He thought for a moment, one zero one zero. Four numbers, his CT number was four numbers, seven five six seven. If they were referring to one of his brothers it was one that was older than him, maybe a command class. The thought itched at the back of his head.
His body and mind were working completely independently of each other. His eyes continued to scan his surroundings and his legs carried him out of the fortress as the group left, the senator being taken off their hands by prison guards, but his mind kept racing.
The numbers sounded so familiar, he had a feeling that he knew who that was. Ten ten, one zero one zero. He knew the numbers of his brothers, but he used names, he hardly ever used their numbers. Who was it? He had to know who it was. The number sounded so familiar, one of the ones he trained with or someone he knew who was in the command course.
He cursed his mind, Cody was always so much better at numbers than he was. Him and Fox liked to make fun of him when he struggled for even a half second with a math problem.
Rex's step faltered. Fox would make fun of him. Fox was good at numbers. Fox's number. CC-1010. Ten ten. Fox was on the list. The bounty hunters, Jask was going to be going after Fox. His big brother was in danger.
He looked to the side sharply when he felt something brush up against his arm. He saw Dagger walking right next to him, arm brushing up against his. She didn't look at him, but she spoke softly so only he could hear, "Whatever you just figured out, stow it for now. We will talk about it later but for now we need to get back to the ship and act like nothing's wrong."
"Dagger-" he started.
"It'll be ok, we will figure it out I promise."
He couldn't do anything but nod. His stomach felt like it was crawling up his throat. His brother, Fox, was being targeted. They were going to try and capture him and send him into that prison. He had to admit that Dagger was right, they had to act like nothing was wrong, focus on the mission so that they could stop these bounty hunters and save his brother.

One trooper hunched over a trash can hurling his guts out. An ARC sitting against the wall with a medic leaning over him. And the rest of Torrent doing push ups in formation with a sergeant screaming his head off at them.
This is what Zap saw when he happened to walk by the gym on his way back to his barracks after a late dinner. He was just a communications officer and honestly his job got kind of boring sometimes, but at that moment he would not trade spots with a single person in Torrent. The Sergeant was screaming about breaking rules and breaking things, his face red. Zap snickered as he went on his way, those poor bastards.
He knew most of the leadership in the unit, if their Captain wasn't the one PTing them at near midnight he wondered where he was. He also wondered what they could have done to get this reaming. Zap knew better than to go ask, so he just moved along on his way. Maybe he would run into a Torrent trooper in the mess hall sometime and he could ask.

Rex had been tasked with helping the Hippo take off along with monitoring the flight to the next world and Dagger had been given the job of cataloging the new weapons that had been brought aboard before they left. Rex wasn't able to even see Dagger until late at night when he was relieved of his post and made his way to their shared room. He found Dagger sitting on her bunk, still in full armor, minus the helmet.
She had barely looked up beyond checking to see who he was. She was working something on her datapad, a look of concentration on her face as she scanned the screen, tapping at it periodically.
"Hey, I think we need to talk," Rex started.
" I agree," she said, without looking up from the screen. He sat down on his own bunk facing her.
Rex scrubbed his face with his hands, "I think that they are going after one of our brothers."
She made a noise of question and he explained, "The chagrin at the front desk asked Jask if I was ten ten. She thought that Jask and the bounty hunters had brought in a clone for capture. A specific clone, I think they were talking about Commander Fox.
Dagger made another noise of agreement, he felt a twinge of annoyance that she still wasn't looking at him, "Dagger, they are targeting one of our vod. Fox is the commander of the Coruscant Guard, I think that this prison is holding more than just Separatist senators. We need to do something, contact the GAR about this."
"Mhm."
"Dagger, would you look at me, this is important."
"Yeah," her voice was distracted, her tapping getting more and more frantic on the data pad.
Rex sat back slightly, it wasn't like her to not listen to something he said. He might as well find out what she was up to, "What are you doing?"
She finally looked up at him, a smile in her eyes, "Something about our problem."
With one final tap on the datapad the small holoprojector connected to it lit up, projecting a set of schematics and a scrolling stream of data into the air between them. Rex blinked, trying to orient what he was looking at. The schematics spun slowly and he recognized the lowest level of the building.
"Is that the schematics of the prison?"
She beamed at him, "And all of the data on their mainframe. I guess secret prisons don't have a lot of internal security because no one knows they exist. I downloaded the whole thing without ever having to enter a code."
He gaped for a second before asking, "How did you do that?"
"There was a dataport on the wall, the hardest part was just making sure no one noticed what I was doing."
Rex's mind flashed back to Dagger while they were in the prison. Her, leaned casually up against the wall. Something that he had been thinking was a problem, a slip in her focus. In reality, it would seem that she was doing more for the mission than he was at the moment.
He smiled, "Damn, that was really smart. Good job."
She beamed back at him, "There is a lot of data here. It's not encrypted but it is in Chagri. I don't know about you, but I don't know how to read that. We are going to have to find a way to translate this without any of them finding out that we have that. And after that it might takes weeks to go through all of this data and then actually do something about this."
"Maybe we can find a translation droid somewhere on the next planet that we end up on. Then we can analyze the data and report back to the GAR."
"We need to talk to them sooner than that, especially if Commander Fox is in danger."
He smirked, "So you were listening to me."
"I always listen to you Rex," she shot back, "Whatever is going on here is something a lot more than bounty hunters going after senators. We need to warn the GAR that something big is going on. And we need to get to the end of it as soon as possible, I have a feeling that the war might depend on it."
"I think you might be right. Both sides being targeted by a third party? Nothing good will come out of that," he paused, "What was it that had you worried earlier? Before we got off at Utrost?"
She looked down, "I don't know yet. Just some things not quite adding up. When I actually have a clear line of thought on the matter I will be sure to let you know."
He nodded in agreement.
