45. Heart Song

She loved him so much, she feared her heart was going to burst. Sometimes, she wondered how she got so lucky to be with him, even though he was a bit jagged around the edges, Sally giggled, smiling down at the one who held her heart. Shadow wasn't paying attention to her, his attention currently focused on the movie playing on the tv.

The light illuminated his face, his crimson eyes gleaming, his expression thoughtful. He looked so handsome, and she felt a desire to kiss him senseless; she wanted to smother him in her love, let him drown in it. As if he knew she was staring at him, Shadow turned around, their eyes meeting.

Shadow felt his heart stutter; the look of love so openly adorning her face, and knowing that it was directed towards him made him feel lightheaded with happiness. She was his princess, his everything, and he never expected a love like this. Hell, he wasn't even look for romance, but it found him anyway in the form of Sally Acorn.

"Hey, Shadow." Her voice was soft as a feather, her eyes simmering, her smile wide.

"What is it, princess?" Her hands cupped his cheeks, slowly but surely drawing his face closer to hers. Their lips pressed together in a chaste, sweet kiss that said more than what words alone could. Actions sometimes spoke louder than words, after all. Pulling away, their foreheads pressed together, they stared at each other, each sporting a goofy, joyful smile.

"Did you know that I love you? You make my heart sing, and I know that's corny as hell and then some, but it's true. I love you so much, and you make me so happy. I'm glad I get to call you mine." She pressed another sweet kiss to his lips, smiling.

"You have my heart, always and forever, princess," he said, tucking a strand of her behind her ear, brushing their noses together. He smiled at her, and he, too, wondered how he lucked up and landed a girl as wonderful as her. He decided not to question a good thing and just be thankful for it, for her being in his life. She made his heart sing as well.
