Lilith gasped in shock, looking to Camila with disbelief.
"No, she witnessed it herself? My god." Lilith said as she shook her head. "To experience the death of a parent and right before her eyes, that's horrible."
"It broke her... she wasn't even a teenager yet, she was only twelve." Camila said, "When I found out, I got there as soon as I could, I found Luz crying, covered in his blood. That's what made her who she is. That's what made her so... broken."
"Broken?"
"Whenever you see her show emotion, it's all fake. She hasn't shown anything genuine except for anger and monotone." Camila explained.
This got Lilith thinking, if what Camila said was true then what Luz said to her in the gym couldn't been faked but it seemed so genuine.
"Darling, I need to tell you something. In the gym earlier, Luz and I were sparing. We both fought well and she won in the end, at that moment, she called me "mom" and it seemed like she accepted me as a member of the family. I just want to be sure that was genuine emotion and not faked." Lilith said to her.
"It's hard to tell sometimes." Camila said, "But I do know, that Luz never lies about who she sees as family. If she called you mom, then I'm sure she's being genuine."
This calmed Lilith's Nerves a little, but she wanted to be sure.
"I'll be back in a minute." Lilith said.
Lilith walked towards Luz's room.
'I know it's wrong to use magic on Luz but I just need to know.' Lilith thought as she reached Luz's door and knocked on it gently.
"It's open." Luz said through the door.
Opening it and stepping inside, Lilith saw that Luz was laying in her bed while her room was a mess! Like a Hurricane had blown through without making a sound.
"How?" Lilith said with wide eyes.
"Couldn't find the remote, had to destroy the place to find it. Sorry about that." Luz said as she muted her tv to talk, "So, what can the slightly drunk girl do for you?"
"I just need to ask you something and I hope I'm not being too… invasive." Lilith said as she sat in the bed, holding one hand behind her back to draw a spell circle. "Camila told me about what happened. Your emotions and everything."
"About dad, huh?" Luz asked.
"Yes, and I know you don't want pity or excuses, but I want to ask, did you truly mean it when you called me "mom?"" Lilith asked.
The spell she casted in secret was a truth spell, making sure that anything Luz said was the complete truth. No matter her emotions. Luz looked at the ground.
"For so long, it was just me and my mom. I felt so out of place after everything happened and... I've been broken for a long time." Luz said, "Yes, I do see you as another parent, I did mean what I said, but at the same time... I'm so afraid of having another one because I'm afraid it will end the same way again."
"Luz, you don't have to worry about that. I'm-"
"I know you're a witch but what if that's not enough?!" Luz said as she clenched the bed tightly. "I used to think my dad was the strongest there was, that nothing could beat him…. until something did. I don't want that to happen again."
"So, you're afraid that, no matter how strong I am, you'll still lose me?" Lilith said before she saw Luz had tears building in her eyes.
"I don't want to be afraid of that because I know you're strong, but I can't help it! I don't want my family to fall apart again! I don't…I don't want to become more broken than I already am." Luz said as she looked up to Lilith. "I don't think I'll be able to come back from it if I do break."
"Come here." Lilith said, pulling Luz into a hug, "I'm not going to let anyone hurt this family. I love you and your mom and that is enough for me to do whatever it takes to keep this family together."
Luz hugged her back.
"I'm glad my mom has someone as good hearted as you." Luz said.
"You have me too."
"I'm too broken, I can't be fixed."
"That's what Edalyn said about the vase she broke when we were kids and I fixed it. To this day, our parents don't know about it."
Luz chuckled at this joke as Lilith undid the truth spell, she got what she needed.
"Room for one more?" Camila asked as she walked into the room, having followed Lilith and listening to the whole thing.
"Of course." Lilith said as she held her arm out.
Camila walked over and joined the hug. Though the truth spell was gone, Luz's tears didn't stop as she smiled in their embrace. The first GENUINE smile she had for the last 12 years; it has to be a sign that Luz was finally yet slowly recovering from her father's death. She hasn't cried since her first kill when she was sixteen. Even pulling bullet's out of her body hadn't given her tears, at least not one she was willing to shed. But now, it just felt so good to cry. Lilith and Camila held her, not letting her go until Camila noticed the sun begin to set. Knowing that Luz will want to go out, she let go.
"Lilith, I think we should leave her. It's been a long time since she's cried, it might be a little much for her to deal with while people are here."
"I suppose you're right." Lilith said as they broke the hug but gave Luz a kiss on the forehead. "If you need anything, just call either of us, okay?"
"Okay, mom." Luz said with a nod to her.
The two left and Luz went to her trunk. Somehow, Luz felt lighter than before and felt that this was going to be a much better night than any before.
"Alright, time to get some answers."
