Illudere by passionlily (8/16/02)

uilludere (v.)/u: Latin, ito mock/i

"Elios, my beloved, why must you mock me so?"

Small Lady's words are quiet, but precise. An anxious look inhibits
her face, and it is obvious by her red-eyed appearance that she has
been crying for hours.

I watch, silently, as she talks to the sun. As she tries to reason
out her feelings, tries to make sense of the pain that love brings.
And I weep for her.

For love is never simple. Love does not come without a price.

Love mocks the soul.

"Dear Elios... why do you haunt me so? I think... I believe in my
heart that we are meant to be together, meant to be as one. You king
of this crystal land, and I your queen. But why do you not come? Why
do you not visit? Not call, not even try to contact me?"

She does not realize, then, what the responsibilities of Elysian's
guardian require. She does not realize that, if they do unite as king
and queen, he will have no time for love, that he is so dedicated
to his homeland that even if he found true love, he would desert it
for his country.

She does not realize that he has too much on his plate to even think
of her, much less visit.

"Elios... why can it not be like our days before? When you were no
more than a friend, a soul mate in the form of a beast, in a crystal
ball where I could always find you?"

She cries. I watch her, and cry as well.

For love mocks the soul, and is satisfied only when it has succeeded
in breaking the hearts of it's victims.

"I love you, Elios. Do you love me? Will you find me here? Will you
come?"

Dear child, so misled. Born of two who's love is eternal, and has
lasted centuries, she does not realize that love can fade as fast as
it is forged.

"Elios... I will wait for you."

And with this, the angel-girl runs inside, to the safety of familiar
walls, familiar faces.

"My daughter..." I pray silently, and hope that she will find true
love one day.

For love mocks the soul, but is just as cruel as it is fair.

I pray that my dear child will realize this on her own, for I have
many other things to teach her.
