A Random Act of Kindness

Kaoru was walking home from the marketplace, in the darkest of moods. She was bringing home packages her father needed to pick up. He would have gone himself but he had students to train all day so he had asked Kaoru to go. She pretended not to hear the soft whispers and pointing fingers behind her back and just concentrated on walking home. Just because her mother had passed away when Kaoru was a little girl, and she wasn't brought up with a female role model, but by her father. A kenjutsu teacher, a male role model, she was looked down upon.

So what if she wasn't " meek" or " a well-born lady". She didn't care, it didn't matter to her. As long as her mother had been proud of her until the end, and her father continued to be proud, she was happy. But unfortunately, Kaoru didn't have any friends because girls were forbidden to hang out with her in fear they would " lose they're cultured ways", and boys would rather make fun of her or be jealous of her swordsmanship than be her friend.

Kaoru scowled as she past two girls wearing fine silk kimonos and had they're hair in traditional buns with jade hair pins. Looking down at her own plain ever-green kimono and her simple ponytail, angry tears sprang into her eyes. Why was she upset anyway?! It didn't matter! It didn't

Suddenly, so into staring down at the skirt of her kimono, she ran into someone with a soft " oof". When she was about fall back from the impact, strong hands steadied her.

" Daijoubu de gozaru ka?" a voice asked.

" Ah" Kaoru stared in to the most beautiful violet eyes she had ever seen. Realizing she was staring and hadn't even apologized she flushed crimsom, " H..hai! Daijobu desu! Gogomen nasai!"

He was probably going to yell at her, telling her she should be graceful like other girlssurprisingly enough, he just smiled at her, causing her to notice a bandage on his left cheek and his bright red hair. Which was very interesting, she never met anyone with red hair before. " Iie. It was sessha's fault. Would you like some help de gozaru ka?" He noticed her burden and frowned, concerned.

" Daijobu," she smiled widely, touched by his kindness, " Arigato."

" Oh" he nodded and bowed, " Then take care." He gave her one last smile before walking off, dissolving in the crowd despite his bright crimsom hair.

Kaoru giggled happily to herself, cheeks still pink from blushing, and set off to the dojo. Whoever that man was, he had just brightened her day. He was the first person, outside of her family, who had treated her like another person. A lady actually, for the first time ever. Even if she didn't know who he was or anything, he had changed her day from horrible to wonderful! With just one random act of kindness. Maybesomeday they would meet again.

Author's note: Hmmit's awfully shortoh well! It grabs the simple point ne? When I wrote this I was upset and felt like no one loved me. But then when my sister hugged me and asked what was wrong, I felt a lot better. So remember minna-san! No matter what kind of person you see, if you know them or if not, if they are nice or if they're mean, it doesn't hurt to just smile and ask how they are. After all, we're only human.
