El-ahrairah!
Not a great black beast
Not slick and dark with death's dawning
But brown and like-furred
Paws tufted as mine
No chilling smell of runners stopped
No whiskers of lightning
Just a gentle glowing
Around his ears, curious and regarding me
Is this it?
Not to say "Is this ALL"
For it is everything that was
And all that will be
I thump and leap with joy and follow him
His word drawing me to the endless Down meadows
Not a great black beast
Not slick and dark with death's dawning
But brown and like-furred
Paws tufted as mine
No chilling smell of runners stopped
No whiskers of lightning
Just a gentle glowing
Around his ears, curious and regarding me
Is this it?
Not to say "Is this ALL"
For it is everything that was
And all that will be
I thump and leap with joy and follow him
His word drawing me to the endless Down meadows
