Title: As I Lay

Author: Jyorraku

Rating: PG-13

Category: Death

Summary: Hoshi is grateful.

Notes: This is a rather experimental piece. I'm kind of scared to show it, but it's short, so if it's really painful, at least you won't have to suffer long. May Lord Alfred Tennyson forgive me. Oh and... Mara is the best beta, ever! Any other mistakes are mine because I've got the attention span of a five year old.

As I Lay

by Jyorraku

Space is vast and empty. It's much too cold to linger, but for those stubborn enough to try, they tell themselves that space is warm, space is wondrous because it has given us the world.

The world, as I shall remember in my final waking moment, is made of the three men.

He is the sky. His eyes blue as the sky, gentle as the clouds. His every emotion, clear and unrelenting. Now the clouds cry, rain falling in a celestial bath.

He is the sea. His eyes blue as the sea, calm as the waves. His every emotion, silent and still. Now the waves churn, a maelstrom in the solemn depth.

He is the earth. His eyes green as the meadow, strong as the lands. His every emotion, dormant and tempered. Now the land quakes, earth crumbling with majestic wrath.

With them... I am reminded of a Tennyson poem...

For I dipt into the future, far as human eye could see,

Saw the vision of the world, and all the wonder that would be.

Words cannot express my gratitude at having known them all. And I shall take my last breath, knowing the dust of my soul will always accompany them in the wind.

End.
