Title: It Means He's Mine

Author: Darkstar

Pairings: Heero and Duo

Rating: G

Warnings: None

Summary: Just a reflection piece from Heero's POV on Duo and his DID and what it means to him.

Notes: This is something that came to me one night (yes, one of those awful ideas that make you choose between going to sleep or waking up to write it down and waiting another 30 minutes to reach that state again).  As stated above it's from Heero's point of view.  I'm thinking about writing pieces like this from the other three pilot's POV's but as of yet I've not been visited by inspiration so I promise nothing.  I hope you like it.

It Means He's Mine

My lover has Dissociative Identity Disorder.

What does that mean?  It means he has multiple personalities.  It's not as weird as it sounds, really.  Or maybe I'm just used to it.  Either way I don't mind.

What does that mean for me?

It means bedtime stories and Band-Aids, teddy bears and video games, and superheroes.  It means home-cooked meals and cleaning frenzies, violin playing and the theatre and classical music.  It means heavy metal concerts and computer shows, kung fu movies and basketball games and motorcycles.  It means dry humor and long silences, punctuality and formality and solitude.  It means endless chatter and mint chip ice cream, volunteering and chocolate chip pancakes and long, slow nights making love.

It means I'm never bored, and who I fall asleep with may not be who I wake up with, awkward moments and no easy decisions, nightmares and counselor sessions and medications.

Does it frustrate me?  I'm only human.

Does it get on my nerves?  Certainly.

Do we ever argue?  What couple doesn't?

Do I ever want to leave?  Of course.

            Would I?  Never.

Duo Maxwell, and all that he is, is a constant contradiction and I love him, all of him, all the more for it.
