Author's note: This is my first fanfic. Please read and review! Also, just note that the story contains spoilers for X 18. It's sort of crappy, but please enjoy!

Disclaimer: X does not belong to me (though I wish it did!) and neither do the characters of this story, but the plot and stuffies are mine and MINE only.

"Hi! Sorry I'm late again!" Karen turned to glimpse the hasty figure of Seiichirou running towards her and she smiled.

"It's okay, I just arrived too," she replied.

They walked into a little restaurant, one of the few remaining after the earthquakes that shook the city of late. The pair took a seat, ordered the food and struck up a conversation.

"Still thinking about Nataku?" Seiichirou remarked on her visible moodiness.

"Mm…" she answered, her head drooping a little.

"Sorry! I shouldn't have asked," he apologized.

It was relatively silent at the table for a while, when the lady decided to change the topic.

"You really don't need to rush a whole lot, you know. You could take your time," Karen beamed at the sweet man she'd grown so fond of.

"Ah… It's not nice to keep you waiting," Seiichirou replied, blushing uncomfortably at the intensity of her gaze.

Karen realized she was staring and immediately averted her eyes to the starlit sky outside the cosy restaurant. It was a beautiful night, the stars like jewels shimmering merrily in the ebony of the night sky.

"I've always felt that the stars seem to contain each and every one of our destinies. Don't you think so, Aoki-san?" the fiery-haired lady asked the gentleman.

"Kind of," he replied. "I guess that if you look long and hard enough, you will find your own star."

"I'd rather not," Karen smiled wistfully. "That star of mine must be a rather unlucky one, given my life thus far and the fact that I'll never be able to get what I want."

"What?" Seiichirou asked, but rather distractedly – the food had arrived and it looked really tempting.

Karen dropped the conversation and they began dining, each retreating into their own private world of thoughts. After, they both sipped coffee, thinking about the plight of Tokyo, and what the future held in store for them. Karen, however, was half-heartedly musing about a certain other matter.

            "Watashi wa…" Karen began.

"Eh?" Seiichirou looked at her quizzically, searching her face for answers.

She was aware of how painfully close she'd come to confession, and her heart hurt all the more because of that.

"Nothing…" Karen turned to gaze out of the window once more, looking into the sparkling silver diamonds in the vast expanse of universe, searching; searching for the star that was hers.
