Aragorn, Gimli and Legolas had just departed from the company of Eomer, and were camping under the eaves of some large oak and elm trees. A fire had been made, and the three were sitting around it, the fire did not do much to warm them, but they kept it alight all the same. Aragorn looked across the fire at Legolas, trying to stare at the elf prince. Legolas began to sing very softly in Quenya, an ancient tongue of the Elves. Aragorn closed his eyes and listened to the Elf's beautiful voice, letting himself be lulled. Aragorn snapped his eyes open; he cursed himself for outwardly showing even a hint of his true feelings. The night drew on and Aragorn sat watchfully whilst Legolas and Gimli slept. After a while, Aragorn glanced to his left where Legolas was seeping in the roots of a tree, for he had been too tired to sleep in the tree and had contented himself by sleeping where he fell. The moon was waxing to full and shimmered off Legolas' beautiful long, blonde hair. Aragorn looked around and listened. It did not appear that any man or beast was watching or that any foe was preparing to attack them; so Aragorn went and sat next to Legolas. His chest was gently rising and falling with peaceful sleep. Aragorn gently brushed away a few strands of hair that had fallen across Legolas' face. Aragorn was so in love with the Elf's beauty and courage; he felt his chest would burst if he did not look away, yet he was unable to tear his glance away. Legolas looked so peaceful. Aragorn leant down and gently kissed Legolas' forehead, savouring the moment, and then leant back. To Aragorn's horror, Legolas' eyes fluttered open and he sat up, but he was smiling; had he been feigning sleep? "Why did you do that, Aragorn?" Legolas looked at Aragorn, and his eyes reflected his smile, showing no hurt or anger. Aragorn could find no words, and made to get up, but Legolas grasped his hand. "I liked it." Aragorn did not quite gape, but came very close to doing so. "I-I did not know you felt that way." Aragorn glanced down, but Legolas cupped his face in his hands and looked into Aragorn's proud grey eyes. "Indeed, I did not know you felt so. But I am glad that I am not alone so." Aragorn smiled back and returned the Elf's look. "This- this felling, I have towards you, it is most unusual to me. I have never felt this way about another Man." "It is also new to me, but my heart sings that such love, even between two beings such as we are, can be found in such dark times as these." They both faintly blushed. Aragorn took Legolas' hand in his. They both gazed at each other for a moment before leaning in. Legolas' lips felt soft and light, unalike to any woman's lips that Aragorn had ever experienced before. Aragorn's rough cheek brushed against Legolas'; the Elf enjoyed this, for females do not have facial hair and this felt entirely new. Legolas gently pushed his tongue through Aragorn's teeth; their tongues chased each other, Man and Elf each becoming totally lost in each other as the kiss deepened. Aragorn's hands ran up and down Legolas' back whilst Legolas played with Aragorn's hair. Aragorn lay down, and Legolas followed. After a while, they stopped the embrace, and simply lay in each other's arm, enjoying what joy and peace they could. They were on the edge of sleep, and cared not, and cared not what Gimli would think when his watch began soon. They did not care, and drifted off to sleep, more content than either had been for a long time.
