Amy was lonely. She'd spent a week on her own travelling, doing a charity show, and a couple of
autograph signings. As she drove down the freeway, she thought of Matt. The last time she'd been
away for a period of time like this she'd had the big announcement to make - one that would
change her and Matt forever. But he was the best boyfriend. She thought of all the ways he'd
tried to make her feel good again. The way he'd held her hands as he made love to her. The way
he'd hugged her close when she felt down. The way that when Nora's son reminded her of Steph
he'd kissed her and told her it would be alright. And she knew it would be.
She pulled up in the car lot of the Hotel, and walked into the reception. Matt was there,
waiting for her. He ran up to her and hugged her. 'Amy, I have missed you sooo much!' he said,
kissing her and picking up her bags to take up to his room. She was silent all the way to the
room.
She sat down on their bed, a tear dripping down her cheek. 'Amy, baby, what's wrong?' Matt said,
running to sit next to her and snaking his arm around her. She sniffed. 'I have been so lonely.
I have missed you so much, and I just can't get little Steph out my head!'. She buried her head
in his chest as he told her it would be OK. 'Amy, you've gotta get over this. I know you love
Steph, and I do too, but she's gone, and we've gotta keep going.'. She looked up at him and
hugged him tighter, 'I have been more lonely this week than I ever thought I could be.'. 'Hey!'
Matt said, 'It's OK, Amy. I'm here now. I won't let you go again, I promise. I promise.'
As the clock ticked over over to midnight, Matt rolled over and put one of his hands on Amy's
hip. He knew she was still awake - no doubt thinking of baby Steph and what could have been. He
held her for a minute until she rolled over to face him. 'You're awake, huh?' she whispered.
'Yeah.' Matt whispered back, 'You OK now?'. 'Yeah.' Amy replied, a small smile across her lips.
Matt looked into her eyes, and pushed a piece of hair falling across her face behind her ear,
'You sure?'. Amy took his hand, and wrapped it tight round hers, 'Yeah. I'm OK.'.
Amy walked across the road, thankful that no one had recognised her, because she wanted some
quiet time. She sat on the bench in the park, and watched a tiny red-head toddler play wuth a
flower, shredding it's petals and putting it in her hair. 'That could have been Steph' she
thought sadly, her eyes brimming with tears. She ran all the way back to the hotel.
When Matt came in, Amy was asleep on the bed, with an empty vodka bottle in her hand. 'Shit Amy!'
he said to himself as she stirred. He pulled the bottle out of her hand - it was like 30% alcohol,
and by the look of it, she'd had the lot - as well as the 3 other bottles strewn around the room.
She rolled over, and her eyes opened. 'Matt!' she said, sitting up and holding out her arms as
he came and hugged her, 'Where have you been? I was so unhappy on my own!'. 'Amy!' Matt exclaimed.
Matt winced as he heard Amy throwing up for the fourth time that evening. Thank god they had the
next two days off - he knew she couldn't cope with that much alcohol - not many people could. She
walked in, dark rings round her eyes, and sat in his arms. 'I'm sorry, Matt, I really am.' she
croaked, 'I'm sorry.'.
Matt closed his eyes and held her tighter, 'It's OK, Aimes, honestly. Just don't do it again. I
worry too much about you for you to do this to yourself!'.
They fell asleep in each other's arms.
