I was unconscious for the next morning and afternoon. When I finally woke up Race was asleep beside me in the bed. I nodged him a bit to wake him up. He slowly opened his eyes.

"Your awake!" Race said smiling.

"Yeah and I ache all over. What happened?"

"Your step dad shot you." He explained to me as he rubbed his hand gently over the stitches in my side. I shut my eyes and winced in pain. "Sorry!"

"It's ok." I gave him a weak smile as he climbed out of bed and went downstairs to tell everyone that I'm ok. I slowly sat myself up against the pillows. Race came back over to me and sat on my bunk.

"Do ya need anything?"

"No! I'm fine." I pulled Race closer to me. He slowly climbed back in the bunk with me and kissed me. When we parted are faces were still less then an inch from each others. We kissed again just when Blink, Mush, Jack, and Spot came into the room with all the others following. We quickly parted and Race rolled his eyes. I let out a small laugh.

"Did we's inturupt something?" Jack asked with a smirk.

"Yeah sorta." Race said looking at them.

"Sorry!" they all said in unison. Race got off my bed and the newsies walked over to me.

"I'se sees you doin betta." Spot said with a small laugh and a wink. I gave him a don't make me mad look and rolled my eyes. We talked for a few minutes and then they left to let me rest. Once more Race came over and got back on the bunk with me as Jack shut the door.

"Now where were we?" We both laughed. That was the greatest night of my life.
