By the Firelight
Things untouched by the hands of time,
Night and day are forever mine.
To hide within darkness and run from the light
Is the life which I lead, filled with heartache and flight.
You swore by your life you would not cause me pain,
Never speaking those words, but I knew all the same.
For your eyes tell a story, and one full of fear,
An emotion that haunts you whenever I near.
Then somehow you know what my troubles can do.
Your sorrow is different, but my words now are true.
I pained you for years without knowing my part.
But I feel what you feel, longing deep in the heart.
I love you and fear you, now that you speak,
Whispering words that make my strong heart weak.
By the light of the fire, I see plainly your tears.
You must know that I love you through all of my fears.
Things unspoken that I cannot say
Stay locked in my heart, stored safely away.
We cannot love, we cannot live a lie,
But my body will perish before this love dies.
