Wolverine of Old
(same author of Wild Wolves and Wolverine)
In the year of our lord 1856 Wolverine was in a bit of a situation. Remember the time period. A man with "healing powers" and "claws" was considered demonic/satanic. You can see why old Wolvy had to stay away from the main stage. From this you can imagine that he was alone most of the timeā¦but not always.
As I was saying, in 1856 Wolverine was in a bit of a situation. He was lonely. He went into an unknown town in middle U.S. and rented a room at the hotel with some money he made from fur trading. Wolverine had saved up quite a bit of money and even a little gold from panning. (Since his real name was James in this time period he will be referred to as this). After settling into his room, James went to the bathe house and cleaned himself. He then went to the barber and had his beard shaved and went to buy some civilized clothing. With his new clothes, shoes and shaved face he went into the Terrace Bar and settled to have a drink. He then ordered some food and had a real meal for once. While others were gambling James stayed away b/c he didn't want to draw too much attention to himself. That evening James paid a prostitute to sleep with him and he paid her well. Since he thought he was going to be away for a long while after his stay he paid for the best one. The next morning he went to the general store and bought tobacco and ammunition. As he made it outside he rolled and lit up a cigarette. Being tired of roaming, James decided to settle down, but away from this place. He had a horse and left discretely. Traveling more north-western, (The Montana region) James found some land he liked and claimed it. He built a log cabin on his property (not a hard task with his strength, but still taking time) and settled himself. His horse ate the grass that was abundant where they were. James left one morning to hunt for food. He walked very far and came across a grizzly bear. For perspective, a grizzly bear can stand to ten feet! James was far enough from the bear that he did not draw attention. He primed and powdered his rifle and walked closer and closer to the monster. He took aim and squeezed the trigger. 'CLICK'. Nothing happened, his primer must have gotten wet. The bear heard the noise and came to investigate. James found dry primer and powder in another flask and reloaded his rifle quickly. He took aim, but by this time the bear saw him and charged. James stayed steady and waited. The bear reached him and stood on it's hind legs to intimidate him. James then shot into the bear's heart and it fell hard. He saved what meat he could and took the hide and made a necklace from the teeth. He placed the meat on a sled that he carried such things on and returned home. He could smell smoke and he rushed to his cabin only to find it burnt. Two men were close by on horses.
One said, "Get out of here, this is where our cows come through, this is our property!" James was upset and knew that the men didn't own any of it.
James replied, "I will not leave!"
The other man shot James in the stomach and he fell as the bear did. The two men got off their horses and looked at James. One man kneeled beside him and took the knife by James' side. The other took the gun powder.
"He was a waste", said one.
Right then James grabbed the throat of the man kneeling beside him and pulled it out. He took back his knife and threw it into the other man. James was in a serious amount of pain. He then reached inside himself and pulled the lead ball from his abdomen. He went to a creek near by and passed out. He woke up that evening and he was healed. He walked off unto the earth once again, lonely.
