The Moon Farm

Who knows how long I have lived here, in this busy, noisy city of New York. Nothing new happens often here in the city that was what I learned early on. When you're young you go to school, play with your friends and do kid stuff. As you grow older you continue to go to school and get more friends and do older kid stuff. By the time you get to college, you are really sick of school, but know that you need the good education.
That's me. Over there on the bench by that very large tree, reading, and studying. I don't hate school, don't get me wrong. I enjoyed it a lot, but I was eager to earn my degree and then go into the working world to see what it would bring.
Today, as you might have guessed is like any other day; I had finished my classes early and now was walking down the path to my home. Yes, I lived at home..still. The reason for that was simple; my college was close to home, so why board there? Anyway, I got home and started to prepare dinner for my family. It was Friday, so I had to cook.
"KEN!!" I had just begun to cook when I heard my name called by my younger sister, Tori. "What?" I ask her calmly. "Dad and Mom have been gone the entire day!" she tells me. I blink unsure of what to say to her. "So?" I ask. "I'm worried! They got a phone call from someone and then just left here saying for me to stay here," Tori now cries.
Even though Tori and I are only two years apart, she acts less mature and worries over everything. "Now, now. Don't worry! They'll be home soon." I say in a cheerful voice. She sniffs for a while, drying her tears before going into her room. I sigh and go back to cooking. "Is there really something wrong that I need to be worried about?" I whisper to myself.
My parents didn't come home for dinner, so Tori and I ate alone. We both thought it was best to wait for the two to come back, just to make sure they were safe. Hours went by, until it was already twelve o'clock. That was when they came home, but they didn't look happy. I soon found out why they looked so depressed, my grandpa had just passed away in his remote hometown of Mineral Town. I too was feeling sad, although I had only spent a few summers with my grandpa, I knew that he had been a great man.
"We went to his funeral today," Dad had begun to explain to us. "The news came so suddenly that your mother and I didn't have time to tell the both of you." "It was a funeral just like he said he had always wanted," I heard my mother say before she began sobbing again. "As for the will." Dad starts, but wonders if he should tell us. "Go on, dear.it does concern them after all," Mother says encouragingly. "The will stated that you, Ken, are going to get the entire farm and that your grandfather wishes for you to run it." I stood there mouth agape. Me? Run a farm?? That was not what I had expected to hear at all. "Well?" Tori looks at me. "What?" I chirp in reply still in shock. "Are you going to accept?" she asks annoyed. Accept?.....Accept the farm?....the family name?....in a town far from here where I don't know anyone???................ "Yes." I finally answer.
