"Donna?"

He was sitting at my desk. A crumpled bunch of roses lay at his feet.

"I can't Josh."

"I didn't ask you anything." There should have been a smirk in him.

I rubbed my temple. "You were going to ask me to work late, or if I had advice for you, or if I could talk to whoever it is that you pissed off last. I can't Josh."

"It's none of those."

"I still can't." I needed to retrieve a letter from the drawer of my desk, but Josh wasn't budging.

"Why not?"

"I have a date tonight, Josh. I have a life outside this place. Friends, a boyfriend even."

"Donna?"

"Yeah?" If humouring him would get me out of here quicker, then i was willing to try it.

"Do you still love me?"

My world was collapsing around my ankles as the words tumbled from his mouth.

"What makes you think I was ever in love with you?" There was a tiny knot in my hair, and I studied it intently, anxious to unravel it.

"Joey said so. Amy said so."

"They're wrong." I met his eyes and we both knew I was lying.

"Donna -"

"What's up with you and Amy?" I interrupted him.

"We broke up."

"Oh." The letter in my desk wasn't important. I needed to get out of there, away from the unrealistic insanity that the West Wing had become. I walked away from him.

"Do you still love me?" His voice caught me before I turned the corner.

"I'll tell you later." I promised.
