Noun: Boredom - The feeling of being bored by something tedious

He awoke, startled out of deep sleep so abruptly that he was on his feet before he had time to question the reason or the circumstances. It was only when whatever he feared failed to materialize that he noticed his surroundings.

Thirty-two concerned faces were ringed around him, some had bodies attached to them, he noted vaguely. And some had hands with which papers were extended towards him.

"Dr. P?" one of the faces asked. "Are you ok?"

He began to get an inkling of the scope of the humiliation he'd brought upon himself as he made vague affirmative noises.

"It's just that," the voice continued. "We're all done, and we figured we should wake you before we left."

He finally scraped himself together enough to generate a coherent reply. "Well, yes, thank you, Mr. Michaels. That was kind of you."

The thirty-two faces grinned but had the manners not to laugh out loud (within hearing distance) at their lecturer who'd fallen asleep while they were writing their test.

The lecturer in question just hoped this wouldn't reach the campus press. Not when a certain Scot was a friend of the editor.

He'd never hear the end of it.
