Beyond Whats Seen
Dear Diary,
"There is always more than meets the eye." Thats something my mother has been telling me since I was a little girl, along with "never judge a book by its cover, look before you leap and practice makes perfect." I heard those all my life, and still hear them now, even in my late 20's. They all have a great meaning but I never fully understood them until I was 15 years old.
Back in time:
There he was. Standing there with his 2 friends. The girl with bushy brown hair who lives on my street was holding hands with the boy who was very tall and had red hair who was speaking to him. He was rather tall with messy black hair and a nice physique. Somehow, I was drawn to him. I couldn't take my eyes off him. In a sense, it seemed we were connected. I must have been staring at him for quite some time because Becca started waving her hand in front of my face to get my attention.
"Rachel? Are you there?"
"Yes I'm here" I replied. I was still staring at him. Suprisingly enough he didn't seem to notice, which was a good thing. Rachel seemed to follow my gaze and caught a glimpse of who I was staring at before they got up and left the food court.
"Wasn't he the one you were staring at when we were at the movies?"
"Yeah, he was" I said blushing a bit. This wasn't the first time I had seen him. I saw him grocery shopping with my mom, at the movies with Becca, walking my dog, and now at the mall. Everytime I saw him I got lost in my own world staring at him. He had this mysterious look about him that made me want to get to know him even more than i already did.
"Do you know him or something?"
"No, I've only just recently noticed him around." It was strange though. I may not have actually met him, but I felt like I've known him my whole life. "Come on, lets go." I didn't really want to leave, I wanted to try and find him once more, but I assumed it would have been better if I just left now before I did something drastic. All the way home and until I went to sleep I thought of nothing else but the mystery boy.
The following day I woke and went to go open my window. The soft, gentle breeze hit me with its cool air. I was leaving to go downstairs when I heard an owl in the distance. I turned to look and I saw that an owl was flying towards my window. I made a move to shut it but it was too late. He flew in and I saw he had something attached to his leg, and it looked oddly like a letter. I took it off and he ruffled his feathers importantly and took off. Curious, I opened the letter. It read:
Dear Ms. Smythe,
We are pleased to inform you that you have been accepted to Hogwarts school of Witchcraft and Wizardy. You will be starting as a 5th year student. Please find enclosed a list of all necessary books and equipment.
Term begins on September 1st. We await your owl by no later than July 31.
Yours Sincerly,
Minerva McGonagall
Deputy Headmistress
I finished reading the letter and a thought crossed my mind. That boy goes to this school. That boy and his friends go to Hogwarts. How I knew this I wasn't sure, but I just knew. I also knew I was going to have to pay a visit to that girl.
