A body lay on ash-filled ground,

Battered and broken.

A heart lay open,

Weighed with pains unspoken.

Eyes of once laughing amethyst

Robed of their vitality and laughter.

Now portraying a life,

With no 'happily ever after'

Cheeks that were once flushed,

Now pale and tear stained.

Specked ebony black,

As upon them his 'love's ashes' rained.

And now all that is left,

A body,

Battered and broken.

Used one to many times,

Wielding unseen wounds torn open.

A soul torn apart,

Missing it's other half.

An aching heart,

Battered and forgotten.

Plying painful memories,

Of glacial cobalt eyes,

Passion filled nights,

Heated lovers' quarrels,

And love filled plights.

 A mind almost gone,

With nothing but one thought…

If only had I known

I wouldn't have let you go

Silently lying in grounds,

Once prayed upon with smiles,

And the laughter that always followed.

Now nothing remained,

But his heart ach and sorrow.

He took one last shuddering breath…

His one thought ceased…

His heart gave one last beat…

His soul was finally freed of its bind,

To now search eternally for its other side.
