It's another beautiful day, the sun is shining thru the trees and Lita is sitting on the low wall outside the local ice rink. She is going to go inside, just not yet. She is enjoying the day; lots of people hurry past busy with their lives, the man in a suit with his briefcase talking rapidly on his cell phone, a young woman pushes a stroller and her baby riding happily along. The teen couple so immersed in each other, they don't seem to notice anything else. A group of laughing little girls fresh from ice-skating lessons. Lita's gaze follows the couple then she sighs and looked away. Her friends have said that she focused on guys too much though she hadn't thought about her old boyfriend for months now, or at least weeks anyway.
She was almost ready to head inside when she noticed a lone figure coming up the street. She seemed to be gliding along the sidewalk. When she was closer Lita realized she was wearing roller blades. She was very graceful; it was obvious she was a seasoned skater. Lita wasn't surprised when the young teen turned off the walk and headed towards the ice rink. She decided then to head in too.
Lita went to the rental counter, got her skates, the only pair in her size. Then to the locker room where she would stow away her purse and shoes. The girl was just coming out of the locker area. Lita noticed that she didn't walk gracefully at all. It looked as if walking was something she was trying to get used to, like it wasn't a natural thing for her. A strange feeling followed Lita as she found a locker, took off her shoes, then stood and threw her stuff into the locker trying to throw the odd feeling in also but it didn't work so she reopened the locker and took out her communicator.
At the benches the girl quickly laced up her skates with nimble fingers, then got out on the ice and began circling the rink taking care not to bump into the kids practicing their spins and jumps.
