Sweet As Short By Annabelle

A cool breeze blew across the open field causing the tops of the tall grass to move and making the whole thing look like a sea with little islands of wild flowers scattered about in a non-sequential manner. The faint sweet smell of the flowers floated across the air and a melodious song of birds cooing to each other could just be heard. The sun was slowly slipping downward and soft orange and yellow highlights were cast across everything. Some animals rustled in the underbrush and settled for the night while others started to wake and enter the field ready to take it over.

On the northern edge of the meadow there was a small clearing where the grass did not reach the same height and was cut down to a normal length. Trees that had little pink flowers blooming lined the clearing and when the wind started up they fell from the tree and danced across the air like little fairies. Once the petals had finished their dance they landed gracefully on the ground and scattered across the clearing making it look like someone had thrown pink confetti all over the grass. The pink dots offset the soft pale green color of the grass, making the whole area looking soft and inviting.

Fuzz from a red and green plaid blanket did not manage to escape the latest storm of petals that the wind stirred up. It caught the bits of flower as the breeze blew over the two people who were lying stretched out across its length. Its slightly rounded edges curled up with the direction of the gentle wind, but just barley, as the weight of an almost empty basket kept it in place but the basket was added not only by the people. There were also dirty plates, silverware, glasses and a wine bottle holding to down to the ground making sure that it could not float off into the meadow and be munched on by a passing deer or rabbit.

Another scented puff of air blew over the people in the clearing but they did not notice. The woman's long brown hair momentarily decided to try to move with the petals in their dance but then settled gently around her face. The motion caused her to murmur a little and disturbed her sleep but she simply curled more into the body of the man that she was with. She nestled her head further into his chest and relaxed as he tightened his grip around her. The fabric of his shirt tickled her face a little as he moved to try to make her more comfortable but she didn't mind. She was with him and that was all that mattered.

"Wesley," she breathed quietly.

"Yes Fred," he replied in an equally low voice.

"Can we stay just a little bit longer?"

He chuckled and stroked her hair. "We can stay as long as you like."
