This is my first fanfic, so please be kind I burn easily. ^^;; Also, I used
the name Miaka because Miaka from Fushigi Yuugi is my favourite character
*ever* and I just want to pay tribute to her, nothing else. I know this
first chapter is kind of boring but it will get better as it goes on, I
promise!
Chapter 1
It wasn't Miaka's choice to go to Shohoku. It was all circumstances beyond her control, and because she was to be a good girl she said nothing to her parents but did as she was told. She had always been an obedient girl, because that was the way she had been brought up, and even at sixteen that was the way she was to be.
So on the first day, she was terrified. Beyond terrified. She was so scared, not only because she was in a new place in a new town in a country whose language she was still occasionally struggling with, but because she was alone.
She'd never changed school before, this was her first time. And it was a big change. She didn't know where to start. Where should she go? Who should she talk to? Who *could* she talk to? Was there anyone who'd talk to her?
Miaka took a few timid steps into the compound and looked around. It seemed decent enough. So far.
"Well maybe this won't be so bad," she thought.
But that thought soon changed when the bike hit her. She should have seen it coming, since the students around her were quickly weaving out of the way, but that was because they expected it. Not her, she was a new student.
So she fell, rather clumsily, but really is there any other way to fall?
After the initial shock had worn off, she picked herself up, and just in time to see the tallest Japanese boy she had ever seen slowly pick up his bike.
Miaka opened her mouth. She was about to comment on how tall he was when her mouth suddenly decided to say, "You hit me."
He didn't appear to hear her. He just started to wheel his bike away.
"Hey, you--you *hit* me!" Miaka called after him.
He turned to look at her. "You were in the way." Then he went off.
Miaka's mouth opened and closed slowly. Now she was more terrified than ever. Were all the Japanese students here like that? How could she ever fit in now?
Tears were starting to brim her eyes when another voice spoke.
"He's always like that, just ignore him."
Miaka turned to see who had spoke. And her eyes had to move up once again. It had only been two minutes and she had already seen two of the tallest Japanese boys ever, and this one had red hair!
The boy with red hair shrugged a bit. "He's just a baka. Ignore him."
Miaka giggled. "I like your hair."
The red-haired boy blushed. "Heheh. Really? Well, that's a first... Most girls don't like my hair."
"But why, I think it's so original! So unique! Is it real?" Miaka's face lit up for the first time since she arrived there.
"Err, yes it's real."
"Waaaaaaah," Miaka said. "That's so cool. Oh, gomen, I forgot to introduce myself. My name's Miaka Guo. I'm from Hong Kong. Actually Miaka's my Japanese name."
The red-headed boy grinned. "I'm Sakuragi Hanamichi."
Miaka went quiet, as though she were working something out in her head. "Cherry blossom... tree... Flower... road."
Sakuragi's face went bright red again at her translation of his name.
But Miaka just grinned. "Genki name. I like it!"
Sakuragi stared at her. "Really?"
Miaka nodded eagerly. "I'm actually new here. It's my first day I'm kind of lost."
"It's okay, the tensai will help you!" Sakuragi said gallantly. "I will show you around, and nobody will dare bother you! Hahahahahaha..."
So Miaka's first day wasn't so bad after all.
