"Whatcha doin'?"

Abby stepped out of the bathroom to find Carter lying on the bed, staring at the ceiling and tracing patterns idle patterns in the air.

"What time is it?"

"Just turned six."

"Nothing. Just waiting I guess."

"Very seldom does that happen. Mind if I join you?"

"Yeah, go ahead," he said with a laugh.

Abby laid down next to Carter. Carter took her hand in his own.

After a short pause, she said, "Did you ever think we would last this long?"

"What?"

"I didn't think we would last," Abby confessed.

"Why?"

She shrugged. "Nothing ever lasts. Something always happens, I guess."

"That's not true. We last," Carter told her. Corny, yes. True, yes.

Abby laughed. "I know. But we were-we are both so messed up. What if we don't last. Luka didn't last. Richard didn't last…You and Susan, and Rena, and that one girl…none of those lasted."

"Both broke up with me because they said I was in love with you. Luka did the same for you, and Richard was…Richard," He reasoned, then having long since stopped tracing patterns in the air, he moved his free hand over her skin sending waves of tingles along the surface of her skin

"Yeah, but that didn't mea-" Abby began, but Carter quickly cut her off.

"I don't know about you, but when we kissed, I knew I had never felt the way I did then. Especially not on a first kiss. It was incredible knowing that I was kissing the person I was going to spend the rest of my life with."

"Oh, you're such a romantic," Abby said laughing.

Carter looked indignant. "I'm serious! I know you felt it. Let me ask you this, do you love me?"

Abby nodded, becoming serious again.

"Did you love Richard or Luka?"

"No."

Carter smiled. "There you go. I don't think you really didn't think it was going to work."

Abby frowned, trying to digest what he had just said. "We're taking a chance. You realize that don't you?"

Carter squeezed her hand tightly. "Yup. Would you with any other person?"

"You've already proved your point. I love you. I probably did know it was going to work."

"Hey, when your on fire, why put yourself out?"

Abby laughed. "That didn't make any sense."

"Yes, it really did."

"Nope. Sounds like something Luka would say," Abby grinned evilly even though Carter couldn't see her face while staring at the ceiling. Carter pinched her playfully. As a reaction, Abby slapped his stomach.

"Hey!" he protested. After a moment he said, "You didn't answer me…"

"On what?" She asked trying to play stupid.

"Would you be willing to take a risk with someone you didn't love?"

"What time is it?"

Carter glanced at the clock. "Five after."

"No."

Carter stood up. "Then let's go." He grabbed Abby's hand and pulled her up. Then, together, they walked into the bathroom.

"Blue?" he asked, noticing the prominent blue against white sitting on the bathroom counter.

After a moment, Abby said "We're going to have a baby."

THE END

Author's note:

Don't flame me! I got bored. I'm waiting for the fixed version of chapter 3 of A Past Beginning to come back to me. Until then, you get to read this. I couldn't resist. After watching the two new episodes of ER these past two weeks, I had to write this. Now, you have to realize, it only took about 10 minutes, so it isn't quality work. Just a stand-alone done because I was bored and needed something to do. If you like it PLEASE tell me. If you don't like it, you're not alone!
