Title: "Emotions"

Author: Katrina Makani

Disclaimer: Sadly, I do not own Inuyasha. It pains my heart to say so, but it's the truth.

Author's note: This takes place at the end of episode 48 and is kind of an AU version of what happened. For those who have no idea what I'm talking about, read an episode summary because I'm not about to ruin it for anyone else. And if you can't guess whom it focuses on…well…just ask, I guess. Review please! ^_^ Criticism, praise, and/or flames are all welcome! Sorry it's so short!

Her breath caught in her throat as she ran, a small fire rising in her chest.  PAIN. She pumped her leg harder, rocks grinding under her feet as she dug her heels into the earth to keep her footing. The clouds frowned down upon her, angry wolves chasing their pretty with a savage howl as thunder shook the earth. ESCAPE. Lightning ripped through the sky and the wolves gave another howl, hungrily drooling as they followed after her, drenching her clothes. To them, she was but a toy, something to satisfy their appetite with. FEAR. She slipped suddenly, the rocks ripping at her skin as she laid face down in her own despair. Her tears mingled with the rain as the wind laughed at the sight; a desperate girl lying in a puddle of mud. DESPAIR. The trees loomed over in disgust, the leaves gossiping to one another with contempt for the creature that had invaded their territory. Her body refused to move, paralyzed by the stinging rain and the wrenching of her heart. This was the second battle she had lost. HOPELESSNESS.

There was a rustle in the bushes and for a moment, her body was rigid. A voice called through the storm and body tensed even more. PANIC. Adrenaline raced through her veins as she hurried to escape the faceless voice. No, it didn't need a voice. She could recognize it anywhere. Begging her bleeding body to move, she was up again, a gasp slipping from the trees as the weak being they had been observing proved to have more strength than they had imagined. Her blood stained the rocks that had been eagerly drinking in her sweet red wine. The voice echoed closer. CONFUSION. Her mind screamed for her to go, her heart cried for relief. She was torn. Go back and face rejection, or go forward and forget? Her legs screamed in protest as she pushed herself harder and farther. Almost there…only a little more. ANTICIPATION. Through the thick veil of branches and leaves, she could make out the soft glow of the moon on the slick grass of the field. The rain pounded into her, the final barrier to her final escape. A shrill howl pierced the sky, the wind carried whispered pleas to her ears, but she did not stop. Nothing could stop her now. DEDICATION. She was ready, this was it. She paused once at the small well, fingering it's worn exterior with sorrow as she made her decision final. With one final look over her shoulder, tears still falling down her face, she stepped up onto the well before leaping in, preparing to leave all her woes behind. FORGET.

As she fell into the darkness that was her light, eyes closed in pain, two words caressed her lips gently before they were swept away by a breeze.

 "Sayonara, Inuyasha."
