Magic Forever
Disclaimer: everything to do with the Young Wizards books belongs to Diane Duane. I only own the plot and the idea. The song belongs to Carole King and is on the opening title of the TV show Gilmore Girls.
A/N: This is what I think of when I think of the Young Wizards books-at least, sometimes. It's my first songfic and one of my very first stories on this site, so I know it won't be that incredibly great. I would really appreciate reviews, though. Thanks. -Arianna*
Nita ran after Kit, laughing, chasing him toward the clearing where they had first met, Kit dashing around trees, trying to avoid Nita, laughing too.
If you're out on the run
Feeling lonely and so cold
All you have to do is call my name
And I'll be there
On the next train.
"Kiiittt!" Nita yelled in delight, then spotted him racing around a maple tree right next to her. She leapt forward and caught him, Kit pretending to be disappointed. "Okay, my turn!" Kit called after Nita as she ran away and hid, trying not to give herself away from laughter-but she couldn't help it. Kit crept up behind her, startling Nita with a shout. Nita shrieked and whipped around to start chasing Kit again.
Where you lead
I will follow
Anywhere That you tell me to.
They went on, back and forth, racing after one another. "Okay, okay, I give up!" Kit said at last, grinning at Nita, who grinned back. (Kit?) she said silently. (What?) (You know where we should go?) (Yeah, I know.) Nita and Kit stepped into the clearing again. Nita knelt to write the spell diagram on the ground with her space pen, then she and Kit stood in the circle together, speaking the transit spell for the moon as fast as they could.
If you need
If you need me to be with you
I will follow, oh, oh, oh
Where you lead
Normally both of them could hear the sound that was what was left of the Big Bang. That day it was both absolutely silent and as loud as it had ever been. Kit and Nita sat on a rock at Copernicus, watching the Earth slowly rise, neither of them talking. That was their world, almost all the life they'd ever known was there, and they both loved it. No matter how quiet they were, each of them knew what the other wanted to say.
I will follow
Any-anywhere
That you tell me to
If you need
If you need me to be with you
Nita finally spoke, moving closer to Kit, whispering. " Thanks, Kit-"
"I know, Neets," Kit replied. "I know. We're friends forever. We-" Nita looked away, back toward the huge blue-green planet-"We've always known that." Nita turned back to look at Kit, grinning again. "Nita," Kit said. "What?" Kit jumped up, running toward the faint outline of a crater in the distance. "You are so not going to beat me!" Nita yelled at Kit happily, sprinting after him. "That's what you thiiiinnnnk!" Kit shouted back. They stopped at the same second, facing toward the Earth again, breathlessly. Nita spun to watch it for a while, two thirds of it visible from where they were standing. Nita put her arm around Kit, who put his hand on her shoulder. "Friends forever," Nita said again, quietly. (No doubt about it,) Kit silently agreed.
I will follow, oh, oh, oh
Where you lead..
