It had felt so simple, and so very, very nice.

Tactile, concrete.

Calming and quieting, in spite of its nature.

But wrong and unnerving once over.

Now her only certainties were the wine stain setting on the rug and the warm body lying on the bed.

He looked like a corpse, she thought morbidly, not surprised. How typical, how completely like him to barely breathe when he slept and to barely stir when the phone rang, or when she answered.

"Hello?"

"Sara, it's Grissom. We need you."

She untangled the sheet from her legs and prepared herself for the night.
