Here I am, staring into your eyes. I'm hesitating, because I'm afraid to
tell you. I don't know what to expect. If I don't say it, I'll feel stupid
for telling you to wait. If I do say it, I'll feel stupid for telling you.
I can't remember when I started to feel this way, but I knew that today
would be the day you would know.
I woke up early, trotting downstairs to find nobody home. I ate breakfast quickly, then brought some upstairs to Kero-chan. I plopped down on my bed, watching him eat. He was so cute, even if he was just a "Stuffed animal," as you always called him. The phone rang, and I quickly picked it up.
"Moshi-moshi?"
"Ohayo gozaimasu, Sakura-chan."
"Ohayo Tomoyo-chan!"
"Did I call to early?" She asked.
"Oh no," I told her, "I woke up early today."
"Great," she said. "Meet me at the park okay?"
"N-Nani? The park? When?" I blinked.
"In an hour. Oh, I have to go. Talk to you later, Sakura-chan." We both hung up. I took a shower and got myself ready, then walked to the park. Of course, I didn't see her at all, only you. Which wasn't a bad thing.
I knew right at that moment that she had told you to meet her at the park too, not me. Because she knows that I love you, and you don't. And she wants me to tell you. I have no idea if she's hiding in the bushes or not, but I wouldn't be surpised if she was.
We talked for a while, about school, how Meiling and your family was doing, and then my family. And after a while, it grew darker. You stood up.
"Thank you for today, Sakura." You said. "I'll see you tomorrow." I smiled, and stood up as well.
"Good-bye, Syaoran-kun." You smiled, and turned to walk off. "Wait!" I said. So you stopped, and turned to face me.
And here you are now, staring at me, a look of confusion on your face. And I can't spit it out. I take a deep breath, relax myself, and then I just spit it out. Faster than I ever could have imagined, but still it felt good to let it go. "I love you."
You look surprised, but your expression softens. You smile lightly, then step foreward and wrap your arms around me, pulling me close to you. You run a hand through my hair. "Sakura, I," you start, then pause. I look up at you a bit confused. "I'm sorry. But Meiling, she's...she's my fiance, and I love her very much." I try hard to keep my eyes from watering, and I still smile. "I'll see you in school tomorrow, Sakura." I nod. You turn away, and so do I. No longer can I hold them in, the tears simply flow. Swiftly, silently. I try calmly to walk away, trying hard not to shake or tremble. Of course, we were only friends, I should have known better than to say anything. Not only have I embarrassed myself, but I've ruined our friendship true. God, I'm such an idiot.
At least Meiling would get her wish. She'd get from me what she always wanted. She'd get you, and she was very, very lucky for it. "Sakura-chan," you stop walking, but don't face me. I stop too.
"Yes, Syaoran-kun?"
"Please don't let things change between us. I'd like us to be friends. Forever."
Yes, you're right. I'd like it very much, too. Friends forever is what we'd be. Nothing more, nothing less. I loved how you were so sweet. Yet in a way . . .
I was crushed.
