Reconstruction of a Life
Chapter 1
I don't own FY. Yuu Watase does. But I DO own an original drawing of hers ^.^ But this is not it.
'It is painfully lonely in the courtyard with no one around', thought Hotohori. Once, it was a place for the senshi to gather to discuss and laugh, to relax and for some, fall in love. Now, it held only one very depressed man who could not escape the heaviness in his heart. It was hard to remember his unique experience in the shrine but he could not stop memories who insisted on tormenting him yet again.
A few days ago while praying for the safe and speedy return of his fellow senshi he received a kind and cruel gift. In the middle of an offering of the finest incense and rarest flowers, he felt a sudden and sharp pain in his chest followed by an intense longing to see Nuriko. He understood through Suzaku's will that he must of been injured and was most likely close to death. Suddenly the pain grew worse, then his whole body went numb. Slowly, an image of Nuriko awash in a soft red light filled his mind. He smiled softly and peacefully at him and Hotohori's heart ached. At that moment he finally understood something that he had kept hidden within himself. He loved Nuriko. Nuriko had been one of the first to see him as a man and not as power to rule a country. It was he that worried over him as he worried over Miaka and grew jealous of Tamahome. Nuriko, although sometimes subtly, had always watched over him. But it was not simply how Nuriko treated him that made him fall; it was his strengths, tenderness, wit, beauty, bravery, and tenderness. He was deeply ashamed of himself for not seeing it before.
Yet, at the same time he knew that Nuriko understood how he now felt. Even though there was nothing that could be done now, he knew that Nuriko was now a part of him, as he was of all of Suzaku's chosen ones, and nothing could take that away. And as the image in his mind faded away he knew that Nuriko had found peace, but for Hotohori, his heart was breaking.
Suzaku's gaze seemed distant as the now unabashedly crying Emperor watched the statue of the bird god, begging him to bring his Nuriko back. "Just one moment longer, please", he cried. "I want to see him again, there is still so much I want him to know. Please, let me see him again." Even with his brief peace, the grief he could not fight was overwhelming. The leader of Konan stayed like that, crying for the death of his newly realized love at Suzaku's feet for hours.
