"Isn't Ben in this?" Chandler asked not believing what he was hearing. Mumbles of agreement came from his friends which just made him roll his eyes. He slumped back into the chair with a slight frown messing with his tie. His friends always teased him about being bad with women, which he agreed he was, but it didn't mean that hearing them all genuinely believed he wouldn't get married hurt any less. Thoughts of self-doubt and insecurity started overwhelming him before he stood. "It's getting late, I'm turning in," he said walking to the purple door. He turned to his friends again to see they weren't even listening so he left feeling even more dejected. Chandler walked into apartment 19 opening the fridge. The first thing he noticed was that he was out of beer and he shut the fridge door slightly harder than he meant to, growing slightly frustrated. Chandler plopped down onto the couch with a loud sigh fidgeting with his tie as his mind started to wonder. It wasn't a secret that he was bad at talking to women. It wasn't a secret he was scared of commitment either, but he always assumed that it would be easier to go there if he found the right woman. Chandler flinched out of his thoughts when there was a knock on his door. As the knocking became more persistent he reluctantly pulled himself up from the sofa and opened the door to see Monica on the other side. "Yes?"

"Why did you leave?" she asked, walking into the boy's apartment.

Chandler chuckled, feeling slightly awkward as he shut the door. "Oh, you noticed? I'm flattered."

"Why did you leave without saying goodnight?" Monica tried again, her voice suddenly small.

Chandler tilted his head slightly looking at her. "I said I was turning in. I just didn't want to be there anymore that's all" he mumbled sitting on the couch again.

"Is this about the stupid marriage stuff? We were just joking around with you" Monica sat next to him on the couch.

Chandler sighed slightly annoyed at how well she knew him. "All my friends think I'm going to die alone ha ha ha" he laughed dryly. Monica opened her mouth to say something but he continued to speak. "I mean who am I kidding... I'm not husband material let alone boyfriend material. You guys are right I'm never going to get married" he mumbled.

"That's not what we said!" Monica moved closer to him wrapping an arm around his shoulders letting him lay his head on hers.

"It's what you were thinking though isn't it?" he mumbled. "Chandler Bing is scared of commitment left alone in apartment 19 while all his friends get married and move away" he frowned.

"No" she shook her head simply. "Being the last in the group doesn't mean you'll be alone. You're going to find someone who understands and accepts you for you. And I would never move away if it meant leaving you behind." Monica gently rubbed his arm trying to comfort her friend "besides...we have a deal" she smiled softly.

Chandler lifted his head off her shoulder looking at her confused. "What deal?"

"Don't tell me you've forgotten already! In the hospital..." she said, trying to refresh his memory but was met with his blank stare. "You said if neither of us were married by 40 we could get together..." she mumbled feeling slightly embarrassed. She was now starting to question if it was just a joke or if the offer was serious. Monica bit the inside of her cheek as silence filled the room, getting more anxious every passing second. She finally could relax when he broke into a goofy-looking grin.

"I remember, I just wanted to hear you say it" he snickered, receiving a shove from Monica in return. "Besides, that's not going to happen. You're Monica Geller, of course, you'll be married by then. Actually, I'll bet you'll be married before 30."

Monica scoffed, shaking her head with a smile. "You're sweet," she mumbled. "If you're the last of us to get married it's only because you waited until you found someone special. I mean look at Ross. He got married first and he's already divorced. So don't even worry about what we said ok? Anyone would be lucky to have you."

Chandler watched Monica play with his fingers as she spoke, making him smile. He loved being close to Monica every day. They could always sit close together in Central Perk without it being uncomfortable. He could always turn to her when he had something on his mind and he liked to think she felt the same way. Why couldn't he find a woman like her? Beautiful, smart, passionate, caring, the list goes on forever. With her, everything seemed...easier. He wished he could just date her. Chandler's eyes widened slightly at his own thoughts. Did he really think that?

"Chandler?" Monica nudged him slightly. "Are you even listening to me?"

"Oh- Of course I am. I appreciate it Monica thank you" he said softly gently running his thumb over the back of her hand. His heart started doing backflips as he stared at their hands. He quickly pulled his hand away and stood from the couch running his fingers through the back of his hair. "Um, I should get some sleep. Goodnight" Chandler smiled awkwardly.

"Oh, right yeah" Monica checked her watch. "Goodnight Chandler" she smiled, kissing his cheek leaving the boy's apartment.

Chandler watched her leave, touching his cheek where her lips had touched. He definitely felt his stomach fill with butterflies. This isn't good. Chandler sighed going to his room and flopping onto his bed with a slight groan. Was he really catching feelings for his best friend? No. Of course not. A pretty girl kissed his cheek, that's all. He was just in a vulnerable place right now; he didn't have feelings for Monica. Chandler tried to reason with himself that this was just his best friend. Not just his best friend but he was sure Ross would murder him on the spot if he knew he was currently thinking about dating his little sister. Chandler shook his head dismissively "stop it chandler you're just lonely" he mumbled.
