[EDIT] Okay when I first uploaded this I totally forgot about intro so I'm editing this real quick. Basically, this fanfic features my OC Crow that I used to have an old fanfic for. You're welcome to read it but it is very bad and cringe which is why I am rewriting it. For some background info, the story takes place in Season 2 of TMNT 2012 before the episode "The Lonely Mutation" but after "Mazes and Mutants." I do intend for the story to progress into later episodes of the series, something I couldn't do with the original because the episodes were still coming out and I had no idea what would happen. I have it planned out past the Invasion but we'll see how far I get. Hopefully, I will be uploading regularly every week.
Anyways back to plot stuff, the story is about the turtles meeting a strange girl with powers. I don't want to spoil too much, but I do plan on doing some of the plot points from my original fanfic. I hope y'all like the story and I'd love to give such an old character of mine a proper arc and end :)
The brisk March wind whisked past Leonardo, making the ends of his mask flitter about. The wind stung his face, but he never minded the cold. After fifteen years of solitude in the sewers, the turtle grew to appreciate every moment on the surface. It felt good to be out tonight.
"Are ya ready, Leader," said Raphael mockingly, "Or do we have to wait for you to finish enjoying the scenery?"
"I'm coming, Raph." Leonardo turned to see his brothers patiently waiting for him. Well, most of them. A shrill beep came from one of Donatello's devices. Donnie looked down at his machine and said, "There's some mutagen nearby. Let's go!" Usually on these missions, it felt like Donnie was the leader. When it came to technology, Leo was vastly inexperienced. Even with a basic computer, he had problems.
The team ran along the rooftops for a while until Donatello stopped. "Hmmm, it should be around here somewhere," their brother mumbled. Leonardo cautiously searched for a mutagen canister. Usually where there was mutagen, there was a mutant nearby.
"Found it," screamed Mikey ecstatically. "Not bad for a goofball, huh?" he bragged as he handed it to Donatello. Raph shrugged and said, "I've seen better." Mikey scowled, his triumphant grin gone.
Donatello snuck the canister into his satchel as Leo asked "So, any more mutagen nearby?"
"Not from what I can tell but—"
An ear-splitting shriek interrupted Donnie. "What the shell was that?" Raph shouted. Leo pulled out his twin blades in a smooth motion. Looks like they found the mutant. Just another typical day in New York City. "C'mon," Leo ordered as he leaped down from the rooftop.
As the turtles landed, they saw a familiar silhouette down the street terrorizing citizens. It was Snakeweed. "Remember," Leo warned his brothers, "don't draw too much attention to yourself. We don't want any of the humans to find out we exist."
"I think we got bigger problems than the humans," Raphael remarked, gesturing towards the large mutant ahead of them.
The four turtles sprinted towards Snakeweed. The plant creature had yet to notice them when Leonardo slashed at the back of its legs. It shrieked and whirled around. It locked eyes with Leo and slammed its arm into the ground. The turtle dodged easily, having battled mutants for what seemed like a million times before. Donatello and Michelangelo subtly guided humans off the street through a quick shove or grab. In the midst of the panic, they never noticed the faces of their protectors. Meanwhile, Raphael and Leonardo cornered Snakeweed into an alleyway. Despite the mutant's flailing and wild attacks, the two turtles succeeded in getting it off the street.
Leo raised his swords in front of his face and said, "Looks like it's time to do some weeding, boys." Raph rolled his eyes, but otherwise made no complaints about his quip. "I must be getting better at these, because you guys haven't made fun of me yet," Leo commented as he dodged another of Snakeweed's attacks. One of Snakeweed's snapping mouths lunged at Leonardo but was blocked by Donatello's staff.
"I think the key word is 'yet.'"
"Oooh, burn," Mikey chuckled.
"Mikey, look out!" Raph yelled. Near Mikey's feet, the ground started to crack as large thorny vines emerged. Raphael pushed his brother aside and got knocked to the ground by the plant. Raph clutched his head as he laid his back. "Didn't know he could do that," he muttered. He had hit the cold concrete hard but was not down for the count. Before he jumped back into battle, Raphael looked curiously at the rooftops above. For a moment, he swore he saw a shadowy figure. But, it disappeared before he could get a second look. "Who…?" he started to ask himself.
Mikey groaned as Snakeweed slammed him against the ground. Raphael ripped his attention from the rooftops to his injured brother. "All right, that's it," he growled. He twirled his sai in anger and rushed to protect his siblings. He attacked viciously, barely giving Snakeweed any time to react. Raph jumped onto the mutant and clung to it. He heard Leonardo chastise him, but he didn't care. He wildy hacked away at Snakeweed's exposed heart with his sai. It only took a couple of swings before the plant cried in defeat and toppled over. Raphael landed effortlessly on the ground and turned to his brothers.
"See, that wasn't so hard." He had begun to put his sai away when he noticed the others still cautiously held out their weapons. "What?" Raph asked as he turned to find out why they were still on the edge.
Behind Snakeweed's crumpled body stood a dark silhouette. It was the same shadowy figure from before. Now up close, Raph could see them a bit better. The stranger was shrouded in black, except for a red scarf that hung loosely around their neck. Their leather jacket was completely buttoned up and the hood flipped over their head. The stranger was completely covered with not a single piece of skin exposed. But that wasn't the strangest part. The strangest part was the black crow mask that rested upon their face. Where the mask only covered their eyes, the scarf covered the lower half of their face. In one hand, the stranger brandished a simple pocket knife. Even though he couldn't see their eyes, Raphael could tell the stranger was looking them up and down.
"Hi," Mikey said with a small wave. The stranger did not respond. Donnie took a couple steps forward and said, "Uh, would you happen to believe that we're just a bunch of friendly neighborhood exterminators?" As Donatello drew closer, the stranger lunged at him.
"Get off me," Donnie yelled as he tried to push the attacker away. Before the others could react, the stranger took Donnie's satchel and bolted. "They're stealing the mutagen! Stop them!"
The others chased down the thief. Raphael grew closer but was outpaced by Mikey. The orange turtle swung his nunchucks and caught the stranger's legs with their chains. They fell, dropping Donnie's satchel. "Got 'em," Mikey exclaimed. Before he could grab them, the stranger pulled on the chain that ensnared their legs, yanking the turtle forward. Mikey fell with a surprised yelp. The two laid on the ground and started to wrestle over the bag. Michelangelo outstretched his arms, pushing the stranger's face away as he reached for the bag. The thief growled as they tried to take back the satchel. Mikey held it too far for them to reach. As his brothers approached, the stranger shoved the turtle next to them aside. He scrambled away just before the others could catch them.
Raph crouched next to his brother and helped him up. He tilted his head and watched the stranger run away. He was about to chase after them when he heard sirens in the distance. "C'mon," Leo said as he placed a hand on Raph's shoulder, "it's time to go." Raphael clenched his fists and fought the urge to keep running after their attacker. "Fine," he grumbled with a snarl. He turned to head back to the rooftops with the other turtles.
The four watched the street in safety from above; pedestrians scrambled to get a good look of the limp husk of the mutated plant. Raph rested an arm on his knee as he surveyed the scene, still looking for the escaped thief.
"Who do you think that was?" Donnie asked as Mikey passed back his bag. "I don't know," answered Leo. He seemed troubled by the incident, but there wasn't any time to investigate further. "I just hope we don't see them again." Police sirens started to wail as he spoke. Their red and blue lights could be seen reflected upon puddles on the ground. "I do," Mikey commented. "They seemed super cool."
"Yeah, you're not the one that got tackled by them," Donnie grumbled.
"Do you think they were after the mutagen?" Leonardo questioned Donatello. "Maybe," he answered back.
"Or maybe, they just really hate your guts," Mikey chimed in.
"Thanks, Mikey. Love the thought that someone else wants to kill me."
"You're welcome." Leonardo stood on the rooftops and gazed at the scene below one last time. He scanned for the stranger, but they were nowhere to be found. Raph sighed and stood up, facing away from the street. He lightly tapped Leo on the back as he passed by. "C'mon Leo, let's go home already." Leo's frown deepened, and he turned to follow his brothers back home.
