"If there be light, then there is darkness."

Pythagoras

The battle between forces of good and evil began even before the start of any civilization, where Gods and Demons used to walk the earth and the number of humans was few to begin with. That was the time where the land was still in one.

The battle between the two started as skirmishes before growing in frequency and larger in scale, finally culminating into a full blown war that lasted for six years. Finally good triumphed over evil with the demons retreat into hiding.

The long war threatened the survival of all living things on earth. Humans and creatures on earth were pushed to the brink of extinction. The land that was once whole is torn into pieces due to the battle, forming what is now known as the seven continents on earth.

Realizing the destruction that war brought, the Gods sought to redeem themselves by teaching humans the way of life. And that is how the first civilization began.

While darkness may retreat when the light shines bright and strong, darkness may still lurk at some corner, waiting to engulf the world in darkness should there be a lack of vigilance, bringing evil and despair into the world.

To ensure civilization survives against the trial of evil, God taught humans the art of magic to fight against the darkness. But darkness proved to be more persistent and cunning than God had expected. It attempts to take the form of human, infiltrating civilization, luring the weak-minded into the unreturned path.

Magic, the tool that God taught humans to defeat the darkness, is now used by the dark against humanity. And thus, magic grows into two sects - the White magic and the Forbidden Magic.

White Magic - used to heal and cure the sick, defending humanity against darkness and evil.

Forbidden Magic or Dark Magic - as the phrase suggests, a magic forbidden to be learned by humans. A magic that could consume the soul of an individual who dares to practice the said magic.

Throughout history, humans use white magic to protect their loved ones from those who practice the forbidden art. And the struggle between good and evil, light and darkness continues throughout the centuries in different continents…

"Ara, what an interesting story ne." The lady with a Kyoto accent said as she slowly closed the book she was holding on in her hands and returned it to the dusty bookshelf.

The full moon rose up into the clear night sky, providing some form of illumination for any night traveler.

It was a full moon.

Two lone figures could be seen standing over a grave and the sound of a shovel stabbing into the moist ground could be heard echoing throughout the cemetery. One of the figures was bending over the grave with a shovel in his hand while another had a torchlight in hand.

"Hurry up Seito! It is taking far too long."

"Yeah yeah. It would have been faster if YOU could have helped me dig, which you are not. So stop whining."

"Well, I am not paid to dig up the bodies! I am only paid to identify and locate our potential 'goods'. And it is your responsibility to dig them up and God knows why they choose people like you! So hurry the hell up."

The exchange of words ensued amidst the sound of a shovel piercing the ground.

The argument came to a stop when a loud 'thud' was heard. The two figures exchanged a quick glance and they could see excitement in each other's eyes.

Yes! Finally! Finally they were done with the digging! Now was the time to remove the body and they would be done for the day.

Well, or rather be done for the night, Seito mused as he quickened his pace of digging. To people like him, the night was his day. His job scope required him to operate at night. A job that could land him in jail but a job that could also earn him a big bucks. In this time and day, a man had to do what a man had to do in order to survive. Digging up bodies for them was the only way out for an uneducated poor man like him. He had a family to feed and he desperately needed money for his children's education.

"Damn! What the hell is this?!"

Seito's musing was interrupted by his partner's words and his attention was once again brought back to the coffin in the open grave.

This is not the first time he is digging a grave but this is the first time he has seen such a coffin.

Four nails were partially nailed into the coffin, one at each corner. A red thread was tied from one nail to another such that the red thread circled the circumference of the coffin. And a piece of yellowish rectangle paper was nailed to the center of the coffin. Though the coffin had been underground for a period of time, the yellow paper seemed to be in good condition.

Curioused, Seito's partner reached out and wiped the sand off the yellowish paper to get a clearer view of the paper.

Words, foreign to Seito, were scribbled in red on that piece of yellow paper. Words that seem foreign and yet familiar.

"No, wait Ichinos, don't take it off yet...Something is not quite right with the coffin." Seito ordered but his words came too late as his partner stretched toward the rectangular paper, eagerly tearing off the slip of paper and red strings.

"Damn it! Hold on!" Seito ordered as he placed his hand over Ichinos', stopping Ichinos in his action. "This is no ordinary paper. It is a talisman and it must be placed here for a reason."

Ichinos waved off Seito's concern, crushing the paper and throwing it onto the ground.

The moment the talisman and all the strings were torn off from the coffin, a strong gust of wind blew across the cemetery causing trees to rustle and sway in the wind.

But just as quickly as the wind came, it died off, leaving the surrounding in silence.

The whole surrounding was too quiet.

Seito quickly glanced around but everything seemed the same.

Yet Seito can't seem to shake off the feeling that something wasn't quite right. The hair on his neck was standing. His instincts were screaming for him to leave the place as soon as possible.

"Hey, something is not quite right with this coffin. I think we should just leave."

"Come on dude, stop talking rubbish and get this done. And stop sprouting nonsense about this coffin being weird. The woman is dead. That's it. Stop being a superstitious country bumpkin!" Ichinos shrugged away Seito's concern and snatched the shovel from Seito and struck the tip of the shovel between the gap of the coffin. Using the shovel as a lever, Ichino pushed down the other end of the shovel, lifting the cover of the coffin up and …

A dark blue Ducati screeched to a halt in front of Fuuka Police Headquarter.

The driver swung her left leg over the sleek machine and alighted from the bike. As the driver straightened up, she pushed the black helmet off her head and a thick cascade of long hair escaped from the confinement of the helmet.

The face that emerged caught the attention of many passers-by. A pale smooth face with a perfect nose and dark green eyes. Her face would have been perfect without the scowl on her face. Well, it was not just her face but her figure as well. The tight leather pants and form fitting white tank top accompanied with a jacket clearly showed off a well proportionate body.

She flicked her hair back with her right hand, tucked the helmet under her left arm and strode into Fuka Police Headquarter.

As she walked into the building towards the lift, the guards stationed at the door saluted her and in return, she nodded to acknowledge their greeting.

"She is in a badass mood. Better not stand in her way man" A conclusion the two guards came to after taking a look at her face.

She alighted at the 5th floor and strode purposefully towards a close door. Without knocking, she turned the knob and marched into the room.

She leaned towards the plump man seated behind and desk and slammed her fist onto the table, making all the stationary on the table jump. "Sakomizu, you better have some damn good reasons to recall me back from my holiday! Damn it!"

Unfazed by her action, Captain Kaiji Sakomizu replied, "Is this the way you talk to your supervisor, Natsuki?"

The Afro style hair would look ridiculously on anyone but somehow, it seemed to fit him rather well. Captain Kaiji straightened up, adjusted his round spectacles and said once again, "Close the door. This is a confidential meeting. AND you might want to greet your supervisor again."

With a scowl on her face, Natsuki straightened her back and gave a smart salute, "Good afternoon Captain. Lt Kuga reporting Sir." After which Natsuki strode to the door, closing it.
